Another September, another slew of hot beauty trends. No other beauty trend is as fun and playful as nail trends. Nail trends and nail art have been getting a lot of attention as of late, and that comes as no surprise since the past few years have seen a rise in nail salons, nail polish brands, and fascination and demand for anything and everything that relates to nail care, maintenance, and fashion. After all, you can never be fully dressed and in style if your digits are out of date.

Keep your tips n’ toes at the top of their game with the modern nail trends that have cropping up in the runways. Get inspired by them and do your own take (DIY, here we come!), or simply imitate these hot nail trends from designer runways and bring them to reality.  These nail trends are also great ways to increase the trendiness of your office ensembles, or even make your everyday denim uniform look more fashion forward. Nothing dresses up an outfit quite like well manicured fingers with some truly chic nail colour. The Vamp

The renaissance of 90s fashion has naturally extended into the beauty industry. One of the hottest hues this season is vampy red. The iconic Chanel Vamp is a modern classic, made popular by Uma Thurman in the movie Pulp Fiction. Bottles of this deep red polish were sold out within seconds during the 90s, and now this hue is back, and it’s a stronger trend than ever. Do yourself a favor, and grab yourself a bottle of this color. Although it’s one of the hottest this season, it’ll last you way beyond that.

In the Nude

Pale pink, flesh-colored, nude nails ruled the runways this season. This understated and versatile trend is elegant and polished (pun intended) enough for any type of occasion or event, and is sure to lend your overall look some class and sophistication. Whether your nude tips are done in sheer or opaque, you simply can’t go wrong with this feminine yet ultra chic nail trend.

Gunmetal

Gunmetal Gray is a hue that deserves a category all its own given how prevalent and well-received it was on a lot of designer runways. Metallics are always a good option when it comes to nail colour and nail art, but gunmetal adds a bit of edge and upscale glamorous rock n’ roll to your fingertips.

Art Attack

Nail art remains strong for this coming season. Whether you love to deck out your digits with stick-on prints or designs, jewels and studs, or colour splashes and unique golden patterns, you can be assured that creative and even over-the-top nail art is here to stay. Flex your artistic minds and muscles, ladies. Tis’ the season for wearable art right at your fingertips.

Gilded Beauty

Golden, bronze, or platinum silver; whatever metallic hue you choose you’ll be at the top of your nail game. Metallics just give an outfit that extra pop, fizz, and sparkle that it needs. A great DIY idea would be to layer all these metallics together or even use different metallics to give your nails a super trendy ombre effect.

Geometry

Do the math and learn your angles, it’s time to apply some line and geometric patterns to your nails. This minimalist yet very graphic nail trend is the one to watch. Get on this trend, and you’ll be one of the first–and the chicest too. Use bright colours to contrast with the negative space, it will really make your cutting edge avant garde mani stand out even more.

When updating your closet for the fall/winter 2014-2015 season, you may want to start thinking about updating your beauty look as well. Apparently, all you need is hair tie and bobby pins to achieve this tousled, sexy “lob.” If you want to take the plunge, go right ahead this long bob is flattering for most shapes and it’ll be painless to grow out.

Emmy Awards 2014 Red Carpet: The Best and The Worst

The best thing about award shows? All the red carpet fashion, of course. Watching Hollywood in a fashion frenzy, observing trends, and seeing the hottest stars duke it out on the red carpet to see who comes out on top of best dressed lists are all what makes award shows so exciting for fashion fiends like us.

The red carpet is all about high glam and wowing the crowd with designer gowns, shiny bling, and well-chosen beauty looks. This year’s Emmy Awards was no exception. Stars sashayed down the red carpet in style and we excitedly watched from our TV screens. Red was the color of the night, and there was a wealth of plunging necklines, white gowns, and metallics too. Read on for more of my personal picks for best dressed and worst dressed on the red carpet.

Best Dressed

Sarah Hyland makes a strong case for crop tops with halter necklines in this Christian Siriano look  that is both age-appropriate and cocktail chic.

Champagne gowns are usually a safe bet and a tad bit overdone on the red carpet, but Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling gives this Zuhair Murad beaded halter gown a dose of trendy style with a crystal ear cuff. Bravo, Taylor.

January Jones stood out from the sea of red dresses, and avoided looking like the red carpet itself, in this gorgeous Prabal Gurung creation.The textured quality of this jacquard fabric places it a cut above the rest, and her choice of footwear is superb. Those strappy black heels give the look its much needed edge.

The captivating digital print on this Peter Som gown is a refreshing and modern look for Modern Family star, Julie Bowen.

One of the most distinctive and sophisticated looks on the red carpet, Michelle Dockery impresses in this Rosie Assoulin frock. The petal like chest detail done in pale pink, royal blue, and apple green is exquisite.

Lizzy Caplan looked like she belonged at the top of the A-list in this Donna Karan Atelier stunner. This look is proof that black need not be boring.

Amy Poehler opted for a design from up-and-coming Irish designer Don O’Neill, and her choice definitely paid off. This metallic, art deco inspired number is red carpet diva at its finest.

Kerry Washington proves that Prada is a girl’s best friend in this unexpectedly sophisticated and intensely striking orange gown.

Julia Roberts wears an embellished Elie Saab mini and achieved red carpet royalty status sans a floor length gown. The navy color of this ensemble is perfection.

Worst Dressed

Great beauty look, and great color. But Mayim Bialik commits a major fashion faux pas with a gown that looks more like a costume than an awards show dress.

Admittedly, the ombre color of the skirt is beautiful. However, the bob and the makeup and the white button down are all sartorial mistakes. Sorry, Lena Dunham, this look is a disaster.

Laura Prepon’s messy looking hair tendrils and awkward origami-like neck embellishment are not helping the already unfortunate and dated gown she’s wearing.

The bold pink and red combined with layers of tulle on Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting’s dress is too saccharine and looks too much like an old prom dress.

Christina Hendricks usually looks va-va-voom on the red carpet, but she disappoints with a gown that has unflattering ruching and borderline tacky gold applique.

Oh Sarah Paulson, I have no words. The overdose on tulle and red dots is not working at all.

Mindy Kaling scores a miss on the red carpet. The metallic details are current and chic, but the empire waist is so last year.

This is champagne gone wrong, the color and sheen just washes out Katherine Heigl.
