Spring is just around the corner. You know what that means? Amazing Spring fashion and  trends for the season, of course! So imagine my excitement when I was able to attend the MOISELLE Spring/Summer collection 2015 in Paragon. I loved every moment of this fashion show!

Grass covered flooring and beautiful flowers, pristine white chairs and a charming trellis crawling with intricate vines adorned the venue and set the right mood for some springtime beauty and fashion fun. As the models sashayed down the runway, I couldn’t help but snap photos of my favourite looks. Before we get to that, let me share to you my review of this collection from MOISELLE.

The wonderful decor at Paragon where this fashion spectacle was held set the stage perfectly for the floral prints, pastel colors and ladylike silhouettes that MOISELLE  showed for this season. The delicate pastel palette, ranging from pale lemon yellow to periwinkle to the perfect candy pink hue was dominant throughout the show. Accents of neutral tones and even brights like that coral/red flowing maxi dress rounded out the colour story of the collection. Some key silhouettes to take note of are: halter tops, floor-length dresses, matching sets, and keyhole crop tops. The brand’s Spring/Summer trends combine 50s inspired feminine style like the full skirt, Peter Pan collar dress and collarless housecoats with edgy designs that are more contemporary and fashion forward like crystal embellishments and sheer peek-a-boo details. From the structured coats and shirtdresses appropriate for the office, to glamorous frocks for the evening, and tailored shorts and blazer sets for the daytime, this collection has you covered. Other trends to take note of are the modern spin on the floral print, with hints of neon and pop art influence, and lastly, another prominent trend was waist-cinching belts that are intricately designed just like the crystal encrusted and high shine copper belts spotted in the show. Beauty trends to note from the show are bold brows, dewy complexion and a modern take on the top knot bun.

So without further ado, here are SWK’s favourite looks from MOISELLE Spring Summer collection 2015 presented in Paragon.

Which looks did you love? I loved them all so it’s hard to pick my favourite one! I cannot wait to own a piece from this beautiful collection. Ah, spring fashion, you never fail to take my breath away.

Walk This Way

It’s amazing how inspiration can strike you. Even in the oddest of places, like this parking lot, you can find something visually appealing and inspiring. I just love how the lines, arrows, and graphic color blocking (grey, white, and yellow), led me to a super fun and impromptu photoshoot!

I love how cities and urban living can just influence your fashion and lifestyle! My ensemble is very city chic with a dash of bohemian flair.

I adore this blue ikat print collarless jacket and love how it adds print, color, trend, and texture to my predominantly neutral look. I also love how the lines of the ikat print look against the graphic lines of this location.

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 8.56.54 pm

Did you notice that my pink lips match the pink scarf tied around the handles of my Hermes purse? It’s all in the details, darlings! Little things like this can make your outfit stand out even more.

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 8.55.28 pm

My white button-down and white jeans is such a refreshing combo, especially when paired with cap-toe boots. This look is simply classic, and you can style it however you choose. The printed topper I chose mixes a bit of current fashion trends with the timeless pieces that I used as the base of my outfit.

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 8.55.50 pm

Another styling trick that I always use is making use of contrasting proportions. The volume of the jacket sleeves alongside the varying sleeve length make for an interesting visual.

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 8.56.01 pm

White on white is a white hot trend that you should get on board with. It is a classic and clean look that you can even wear during evening events. Given the right styling of course.

Now that spring is coming, white will be a more prevalent color trend than ever. Combine it with fun and playful prints just like I did, and you’ll be styling down the city streets (or the beach!) in no time.

Latest trends

Spring is just around the corner, and if your closet needs a refresh so does your beauty routine. The Spring 2015 runway was rife with beauty inspiration and artistic visuals. From spins of classic beauty looks to avant-garde flourishes, this season’s beauty looks ran the gamut. There were flirty and fun girly looks, eccentric graphic designs, but the most prevalent look was the minimal barely there makeup look. Wanna know more? Read on for my rundown of Spring 2015’s Top Makeup Trends.

Wing It

This season takes the winged/cat eye trend that has been going strong for years now, and this time around the industry has upgraded it and made it more dramatic and geometric. You can either go for a fully lined cat eye look in blue liner or a heavily drawn on top liner with a futuristic feel, either way a more pronounced cat eye will do wonders in giving your spring look a modern uplift. These cat eye looks are perfect for evening, and will look great with your favorite LBD.

Doll Face

This season’s doll-like beauty look is all about pink lips and a wide-eyed look punctuated by high impact lashes. Lips that range from pinkish nude to hot pink Barbie lips, and lashes that range from 60s Twiggy-esque to 80s maximum volume drama, the doll face look has a variety of incarnations that you can play around and have fun with. This look is best paired with spring’s traditional floral frocks and pastel looks.

Red Alert

Red lips are always a permanent staple in the beauty industry lexicon. It is like a sleek black pump that never goes out of style. For Spring 2015, the red lips come in a more stained look. This “just bitten” look is especially perfect for balmy summer afternoons. Best paired with a bold, perfectly sculpted brow. This is a fuss-free way to get your beauty look on trend.

Purple Rain

The smoky eye look isn’t exclusive to neutrals anymore. Shades of purple have been used to create a refreshing and colorful take on the smoky eye. This unexpected color creates a look of subtle sophistication. Keep the rest of your beauty look simple when taking this trend out for a spin, and let your eyes be the focus of attention.

Feelin’ Blue

Blue eyeshadow gets a bad rep for being unwearable and borderline uncool. Spring 2015 has brought back the blue eyeshadow in a big way, and in the process it has proven that this eye look can work for a variety of eye colors and skin tones. Experiment with different shades of blue and see what works for you.

High Brow

Yes people, eyebrow coloring and bleaching is a thing. Kim K. and Cara Delevingne have both taken the plunge into a brow color change, and it is proving to be a favorite of fashion rebels to express their inner wild child. This trend may not be for everyone, but it is certainly a noteworthy trend that you can try with some temporary eyebrow tint.

Au Naturel

Spring 2015’s most dominant beauty look is the barely there minimal makeup look. The perfect no makeup look always start with great skin, of course. Invest in your skincare and stick to routine that works for you to ensure that you have the best canvas for this beauty trend. The key to the no makeup look are groomed brows and a healthy looking complexion, which you can either use a bit of bronze or blush to achieve. Finish off with some lip balm and a tiny amount of gloss and you’re all set.

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

The smoky eye look is another trend that has cemented itself as a beauty industry classic. This season designers showed heavily lined raccoon like dark smoky eyes. Channeling a “morning after party vibe” this edgy beauty look is best paired with a leather jacket or for some sartorial contrast, a polished and tailored ensemble.

Paris Fashion Week Top 5 Runway Shows

Latest trends

It’s that time of the year again, fashion week is upon us. Well, more like fashion month actually. This whirlwind of fashion, art, and design inspiration has me wide-eyed over all the creativity and innovation I’ve been seeing, From New York to London, and Milan to Paris, fashion week is further proof of how magical and amazing fashion is. I’ve gotta say though that I am especially in love with Paris Fashion Week. Paris is the birthplace of esteemed and historic fashion houses like Balenciaga, Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few, which is exactly why Paris Fashion Week is extra special for me. Here I give you a rundown of the top 5 shows I loved this Fall 2015 season.

Miu Miu

Miuccia Prada has consistently churned memorably playful and witty collection for Miu Miu, this Fall 2015 was no exception. 50s inspired silhouettes in a plethora of colors and textures sashayed down the runway. Cabochon statement necklaces and earrings adorned each look, and is sure to herald the comeback of these baubles this year so take note fashionistas. Knits, pleats, snakeskin, and check prints, there are just so much visual inspiration in this one.

Balmain

Creative Director for Balmain, Oliver Rousteing, does it again. The signature modern Balmain look is all about glitz, rock n’ roll, and serious tailoring and detail of course. This collection was heavily inspired by the unapologetic glamour and pomp of disco era 70s. Rousteing’s take on the 70s consisted of micropleating, velvet, graphic stripes, oversized belts, and lots and lots of bright and bold jewel tones. A lot of red carpet stunners in this collection. Also noteworthy are the velvet heels in this show.

Sacai

If you don’t know about up and coming brand Sacai, consider yourself informed. This brand helmed by Commes des Garcons and Junya Watanabe trained Chitose Abe has got the whole fashion world in a tizzy. Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour, and Suzy Menkes all consider themselves fans of this brand. So you better get on board with Sacai’s unique silhouettes and forward thinking designs. I mean, how awesome is the cable knit embossed print on leather? Knit and leather have always made a good match, and Sacai takes this duo elevates it even further.

Chanel

Chanel wows fashion fans once again with its brilliant Brasserie Gabrielle concept. Set in a traditional French brasserie, Karl Lagerfeld’s high concept design with futuristic tetrahedrons with tweed contrast perfectly with Parisian flair of the brasserie. His collection truly celebrates what’s great about Paris. My personal style picks from the show are the cap toe low block heels, tied ribboned belts, mosaic embroidery, and the distinctly contemporary bourgeois feel of the collection.

Isabel Marant

It Girl fashion fave Isabel Marant stays consistent with what she’s always been known for, which is wearable designs that combine her signature edge with figure flattering silhouettes. High waist trousers, stripes and tribal prints dominated the collection. Touches of femininity like ruffles and nautical preppy buttons were also present. Note the striped sweater and high waist paper bag trouser combo, I reckon it’ll be a prevalent ensemble for the season to come.

It can’t be a complete #OOTD without a statement bag? As you can probably tell my dear reader, I am very passionate about purses. I believe that bags can elevate a look and pull it together. My new acquisition from Valentino is no exception. The studded detail is so contemporary and trendy and so unexpected with the earthy color palette of the purse. The orange and olive green color play into the natural appeal of my floral chiffon blouse.

What would you wear for a day on the docks? I loved my outfit from this day, and I hope you love it too! Stay tuned to my blog for more of my personal style.

2015 Oscars Red Carpet Report

Latest trends

The Oscars is the most awaited and prestigious event of the awards season. For fashion lovers, celeb watchers, and style enthusiasts, the red carpet at the Oscars is the best time to spot the best beauty looks and most glamourous gowns. In an effort to be the best dressed star of the night, celebs pull out all the stops for the Oscars red carpet. This year was no exception. As most of Hollywood sashayed down the red carpet, us at home swooned over all the stunning (and some not-so-stunning) looks. Here are my picks for the best and worst dressed celebs at the 2015 Academy Awards.

BEST DRESSED

enhanced-11731-1424653109-16

My top pick for best dressed of the whole night has got to be Jennifer Lopez. Jaws dropped and the crowd ooh-ed and aah-ed as La Lopez strode into the venue in this blush Elie Saab creation. The delicate embellishment and voluminous ball skirt contrasted perfectly with the low cut of the front of the gown.  The color works perfectly with J.Lo’s skin. This is modern elegance personified.
enhanced-11832-1424645389-24Jamie Chung’s soft makeup look and luscious tressed with bouncy curls complemented the starburst adornment of her gown. The dark tulle overlay with the nude frock underneath is a great way to add dimension to an evening look. Choosing not to accessorize was a wise choice, as it let the gown design and sparkle take center stage.

enhanced-14941-1424653667-8Keira Knightley’s fairytale frock was a fashion risk, for sure, but it was one that paid off for her. With embroidery and delicate calligraphy all over her dress, Keira truly embodied a modern kind of romance. This look was certainly a step above your typical styled look for awards shows. Bravo.

enhanced-19624-1424647448-1

Now, you can’t expect musical duo Tegan and Sara to stroll in clad in matching ball gowns, do you? Of course not. The pair stayed true to their indie and edgy roots by opting to go the more tailored route. Leather details, crisp silhouettes, and subtle and sleek metallic accessories, both their looks are proof that you can tailor your evening looks to your personality. Gowns are great, but they are definitely not your only sartorial option for red carpets and black tie events.

enhanced-20383-1424654514-41

Jenna Dewan-Tatum has my vote in this luminescent and immaculate white number. She looks positively radiant in this column gown that is perfectly accented with some bling and a well-placed Art Deco inspired waist cincher. The simple yet elegant shape and cut of the gown makes her diamond cuff and earrings stand out even more. The red orange lip is a bold beauty move that makes her look a cut above the rest. enhanced-30835-1424647567-26

Faith Hill’s short pixie cut looks even more regal in this soft yet impactful wrap column dress. The long diamond lariat is the perfect accessory to go with the low cut front of the down. A simple smoky eye and dewy skin finish off this look nicely. enhanced-31456-1424650327-2Zoe Saldana shows off her amazing post-baby bod in this stunning rosy blush gown. The beautiful draping combined with the fashion forward ruching and just the right touch of sparkle from her diamond necklace makes this an A plus red carpet look.

WORST DRESSED
enhanced-5526-1424652070-2

Although Chloe Grace Moretz’s beauty look is on point (look at those brows), her dress is unfortunately left out in the cold. The fabric and cut just doesn’t do anything for her, and makes her look older than she actually is.

enhanced-32528-1424648303-16This robe/gown hybrid on Margot Robbie is proof that event the hottest bod can’t make a bad dress work. The length and the drape make this dress look more like a housecoat than a red carpet design. You can do better next time, Margot.

Who are you picks for best and worst dressed? Let me know!

Color of the Year: Marsala

Latest trends

Every year the Pantone Color Institute selects a color they dub “color of the year.” Pantone is a company that creates tools for fashion, interior, and textile designers to ensure color accuracy and vibrance. And every year, Pantone never fails to start a color trend. This 2015, Pantone has named Marsala as the hot and trendy hue that is sure to take the world by storm.

Adaptable to both men’s and women’s fashion as well as home styling, the rich color of Marsala is just as warm and robust as the wine it derives its name from. Style wise, Marsala provides us fashionistas with so many opportunities for styling this hue all year round. Although the color is very reminiscent of fall, Marsala can be worn all year round. I am personally so in love with this earthy and sophisticated red-brown hue.

Here I give you some styling inspiration as well as some tips and tricks so that you can easily get in on this color trend too! Take a look at my picks and fashion ideas below.

3e69fd868d770275f3bd0ccdc4c56d4f

Glamorize Marsala with hints of gold and leopard print. Both gold and marsala are warm hues that are sure to work well together. A Marsala feathered skirt is a worthy addition to your evening wear rotation, and a welcome change from your typical cocktail wear.

7e29c40041d266aa435a56b5d238f2d2

Sometimes, all you need is one trendy accessory to turn things around and elevate your look. A Marsala hued wide brim hat is a great way to cover your head and stay warm from fall to winter, and it’ll easily complement your cozy plaid flannels and cozy sweaters. The best part is that you can take this Marsala accessory toward summer dressing as well. It is a great topper for those breezy maxi dresses. 64a54b54ba9de25db234b4b16374a48b

Don’t shy away from donning Marsala from head-to-toe, the understated elegance and warm saturation of this hue is flattering to most skin colors and isn’t too loud or overpowering to be worn as a monochromatic look. Insert some leather and exotic animal skin into your look for some dramatic and fashion forward texture play. 289df7817721756695df2832ee900adb

Midi skirt plus Marsala equals a trendy combo that your closet will die to have. A pleated midi in Marsala can be worn with a variety of pieces, you can wear it with a crop top for more casual occasions or you can opt for more polish as shown in this look. The striped oxford shirt and pearls add a classic twist to the Marsala piece.
638e5b91dbeb20efebf78f43822173cc

Marsala when done in tailored and structured shapes is so attention grabbing. Add an oversized belt that’s very current, and you’ve got a contender on your hands. For serious street style chops, Marsala is the way to go as it shows your trend savvy and fashion knowledge. 8743eeef8f57bf9a29309d85cd465f87

Casual days get a trendy update when you throw in a relaxed fit Marsala button-down into the mix. This rich hue pairs amazingly well with jeans, and again looks so stunning when worn with animal print and your favorite gold bling.
a8a747675ada0b82f71caf6859a32d5f

An athletic spin on Marsala is a styling idea that you should look into. The juxtaposition of the sporty platform slip-ons with the mystery and femininity of Marsala is pure perfection. A leather cross body satchel and sunnies definitely add that downtown cool vibe to this look. d leopard belt leopard loafers steve madden brooks brothers camel blazer burgundy theory cropped pants brooks brothers non iron blue oxford shirt fashion blog classic street style new york city women working appropriate professional outfit

Adding some Marsala to your office look is a great way to insert color into your everyday work wear without looking inappropriate or out of place in the board room. Marsala is a subtle and warm shade of red-brown that can pair well with your blue office separates and tailored blazers. Try a Marsala tailored pant for a standout stylish office look. e6934c1d5d1b0c62864aecd8cf311c63

When in doubt, pair it with black and white. Outerwear has been a fashionista staple for many seasons now. Most street style stars make a sartorial statement through their topper of choice, make yours count with a Marsala trench coat. It’s a classic silhouette that is given a modern spin by this trendy color. This coat will go well with most fall hues, but black and white just gives it that edgy graphic feel. fbe481b1a8e352d6bb2246fcfb940b3aTaylor Swift has been nailing the street style game as of late, and this on point outfit is no exception. She basically affirms the chicness and wearability of Marsala in this papparazzi perfect street style look. The green check scarf and her khaki-colored peacoat look like they were made to go with her Marsala hued denims.

So which Marsala look caught your eye? I am looking forward to some Marsala-hued shopping this weekend!
