Party season is in high gear by now. With Christmas being a hop, skip, and jump away, I know that you are in dire need of fresh beauty ideas to up your party glam game. Don’t fret, I’ve found a ton of hair and makeup trends that are sure to give your new sparkly dress and that favorite LBD the extra kick of chic that it needs. Here are my top picks for the best in makeup and hair trends this holiday 2015:

High Ponytail

Sleek, wavy, or feminine, a high ponytail should be your hairdo of choice if your dress has low-cut back or intricate back detailing.

The Grown Up Sock Bun

Now, we all love a messy sock bun when we’re relaxing at home. Take your go-to hairdo to the next level by making your bun voluminous by teasing it a la Cara Delevingne. You can also take a cue and keep it sleek a la J. Lo or accent it with a full-on bang like Rihanna.

Accessorize It

You can always count on  floral or crystal embellishment to cure to a bland hair style. When in doubt, accessorize.

Braided Beauty

Braids have a had a strong showing for multiple seasons now. This holiday season, braids move away from the bohemian and into more romantic and sophisticated territory.

Whether you opt for tousled waves like Jessica Alba or old Hollywood glam like Kate Beckinsale or Blake Lively, or even some asymmetrical action like Allison Williams, your curling iron will be your best friend this party season.

‘Tis the season for holiday parties, reunions, and get-togethers. If you’re bracing yourself for the party season heading your way, I come bearing gifts–in the form of a holiday beauty trend guide that is.

In the sea of cocktail dresses, of course, you’d want to set yourself apart right? A standout ensemble isn’t your only way to get noticed and remembered, your holiday beauty look will score you major points and make your look one to remember as well. From your tips to your toes, I’ll give you some trends that you should try to elevate your look for the holiday parties to come. I’m sure that you’re going to rock each trend like the true trendsetter and fashionista you are.

I’m going to start my holiday beauty series with the party-ready nails that’ll finish off your look with a trendy flourish. Here are my top picks for nail trends this holiday season:

Shattered Glass Nails

If punk rocker chic is your aesthetic, shattered glass nails is the trend made with you in mind. I love the futuristic and edgy feel it gives, and it will truly take your LBD to new heights, especially when paired with chrome rings and/or bangles or cuffs.

Metallic Half-Moon

Forget French tip, when you rock the metallic half-moon nail trend on your digits, you’re earn second looks for sure. Metallic colors are a guaranteed hit for party ready holiday beauty, since the sheen already puts you in the festive mood. Taking your metallic colors into a half-moon design adds to the fashion forward feel of your look.

Get The Blues

Now, reds and pinks might be your safe and easy bet, but you should consider bright and vibrant metallic or frosted blue hues to accentuate your holiday looks with. Just don’t pair it with a matching blue eyeshadow to avoid looking too 80s or over-the-top.

Deck your digits out in the gilded brilliance of gold glitter and metallics. There’s nothing like gold nails to spell instant glam for your look. If you’re decking your digits in gold, avoid wearing bold accessories in your hands and arms and instead opt for thin and delicate pieces.

This season, your cuticles are getting more attention as far as nail trends go. Too much glitter can read juvenile so a little sprinkling of glitter on your nail beds is a great way to add some sparkle to your mani, while maintaining a sophisticated aura.

Modern Lines

For a mani that stands out and truly goes the distance, get geometric with it. Modern lines and abstract art-inspired tips really hint at your inner fashion renegade. What’s great with this trend is you can choose more muted colors if you’re more conservative, and bolder colors if you fancy yourself a beauty risk taker.

Fashion Bipolarity

Do you enjoy fashion extremes just like I do? I am so guilty of dressing the complete opposite of what I did the day before. You should definitely let your mood of the day dictate what you’re wearing sometimes, it just makes fashion and dressing up even more exciting since it’s so unpredictable!

I wore this embellished striped top previously with a blush pink midi skirt, and now I take more of a youthful approach with a huge amount of street style rebel vibe.

This look really goes to show how versatile stripes can be, girly and feminine one day, and rock n’ roll the next. I kept the same beauty look, did you notice? The dark red lip matches this look perfectly as well.

How much am I loving the grunge rock feel of these printed slip-on sneakers? Again, this is further proof of how opposite I can be with my style. I do love my heels, but there are days when nothing can beat an edgy pair of comfy sneaks.

These jeans are so comfortable that I can actually surf in them! City surf, that is. Jeans are so great for traipsing about and having urban adventures.

But what makes this look so amazingly rugged and chic? The ripped denim, of course! I love the ripped denim trend because it just lends that undone glam to your casual look, and if you choose to dress it up with something sparkly for the evening, it looks just as chic. The boyfriend fit of the jean makes this pair extra trendy and of-the-moment.

I used the same fuchsia YSL nano cross-body bag in this look, and it works just as well. The structured shape of the handbag works to make this look feel a little more put together, and a little less rugged and slovenly. And it is an excellent pop of color too, since this outfit is mostly dark tones.

This ensemble really makes the embellishment on the tee stand out, a brilliant spin on the denim and tee casual dressing. So take that tip to heart, a little bling on your T-shirt goes a long, long way into glamming up your daytime look.

Everybody should always have time for funny faces in between #OOTD shots right? I enjoyed this look too much! Isn’t it amazing when you can use one piece in two very different ways? It simply goes to show that any piece can be versatile when you let your creativity rule.

Top 10 Beauty Bloggers

Beauty bloggers are taking the world by storm. From books, TV show, makeup lines, and brand collaborations, beauty bloggers are showing up in the industry in a big way. The appeal of beauty bloggers is so unique because most of the time, their videos and online platforms are so approachable and friendly. Most of them look and act like your best friend. Another thing that makes beauty bloggers so in demand? They are knowledgeable about a vast number of makeup products and have an almost encyclopedic wealth of information about beauty brands and all their product lines. More than their DIY tutorials, make-up how-to’s and beauty and makeup “haul” posts, these bloggers are business savvy and even more, they are so great at what they do so much so that their niche in the industry is established. We count on them to tell us which products are great and which are not. I simply love watching their videos!

 

Here is my personal rundown of the Top 10 Beauty Bloggers in the industry:

 

1. Michelle Phan

Can you really make a list like this without including beauty blogger powerhouse Michelle Phan? Not really. A pioneer in beauty blogging and a definite trendsetter, you can always count on Michelle Phan to show you a fool proof way to get the make-up look you’ve been coveting. Her Youtube channel has over a billion views, which has led to a published book, her own cosmetic line, and even an e-commerce venture, that is now worth $84 million. She defines “Girl Boss” to a T.

2. Into the Gloss

Into the Gloss pretty much invented the “shelfie,” which is now a bona fide social media phenomenon. A shelfie is a photo of someone’s makeup, or maybe even bookshelf. This snapshot says so much about a person’s taste and lifestyle. Into the Gloss is an online magazine that is most known for invading the shelves and makeup kits of fashion and beauty industry insiders and allowing readers to take a peek and gain a tip or two from their beauty routine.

 

3. The Beauty Department

Lauren Conrad of “The Hills” fame is now a certified mogul. The Beauty Department is one of her highly successful ventures, a beauty blog filled with doable DIY skincare, easy to follow makeup tips and tutorials, cute nail art how-to’s  as well as an inspiration page filled with what LC is loving at the moment. Keep an eye out for their extraordinary hair tutorials and blogs, it just might be your ticket to having locks as healthy and lustrous as Lauren Conrad’s.

Essie Button a.k.a. Estee Lalonde is a Canadian, now based in the U.K. Her fresh faced beauty and weekly video tutorials is enough reason to add her to your feed. U.K. based beauty blogger, Patricia Bright, is famous for her stunning long and shiny locks. What makes her even more compelling is her killer sense of style. She truly is the full blogger package. Her outfits can be your constant source of wardrobe inspiration, while her product reviews and makeup looks can definitely uplift your beauty game.

6. Cult of Pretty

The Cult of Pretty isn’t just your average beauty site. Founder Ann Colville Somma is all about getting to the nitty gritty of each product. For her it isn’t about the hype, it’s about analyzing the effectivity of the product and its ingredients. This should be your go-to blog for finding beauty items that most of your friends haven’t even heard of.

7. Barefoot Blonde

Amber Clark of Barefoot Blonde specializes in braids. Her stunning braided hairstyles are nothing short of amazing, and she seems like a professional when it comes to braiding. Teni Panosian of Miss Maven is so good at makeup, she is often asked where she is trained. Truth is, Panosian describes herself as a consumer who is really in love with makeup. Spring 2015 Hair and Nail Trends

When updating your beauty booty for the new season, make sure that you update your entire beauty look and not just your makeup kit. Fashion forward and edgy hair and nail trends abound, and these looks may just be what you need to complete your #OOTD. There is a plethora of beauty ideas and new looks this season, and each one is just as fun and playful as the next. You can certainly pull inspiration from beauty looks from different decades, ranging from 60s lashes to nostalgic crimped 90s hair. Most of us get stuck in a beauty rut every now and then, and these trends are perfect for shaking up your routine. Here are my personal picks for the top hair and nail trends for the season:

Crimped Hair

Bring back those old school hair crimpers from the 90s. I love how fun this look is. It is more playful than full-on bouncy curls and definitely has that “too cool to care” vibe. Best to mix crimped strands with some sleekness for a hair do that’s straight off the runway. This ‘do will definitely make you stand out.

Exposed Bobby Pins

Gone are the days of hiding how you pinned your locks for the day, the runways are unapologetic with how we achieve a gorgeous ‘do now. Let those bobby pins be a part of your modern look and expose them to the world as you use it to pin your trendy half-up hair do. Whether you do your half-up hair look sleek or whether you choose to do it tousled and a bit more messy, these exposed bobby pins will definitely upgrade your look of the day.

Baby Hair

Inspired by FKA Twigs, baby hairs are back. No need to pin them back or use gel or serum to tame them, allow your baby hairs to flow onto your face naturally. These fine strands will certainly complete your model off duty look and it also goes with the natural makeup look that’s all the rage this spring and summer.

Grunge Braids

Braids are still going strong this season, but this time around braids are more on the rock n’ roll and edgy side. Milk maid braids or girly and ladylike braids are no longer, braids this season are a little bit grungy. More fashion forward and with more street style cred for sure, consider this your license to spend a little less time perfecting and taming your braids. Let your strands stick out organically and don’t use too much product to achieve this look.

Modern Knots

Top knots and buns are still trendy, but for Spring/Summer 2015 these knots are more modern and minimalist with just a touch of origami inspiration. Sleek and architectural, these knots and buns will take your updo to the next level of chic, and will refresh your evening look for sure. 

White Nails

White nail polish in glossy finishes are still ultra chic. You can try these optical white nails with either almond shaped or square shaped digits. Long or short, white nails are essential for the season. It adds a graphic feel to any ensemble.

Au Naturel

Consistent with hair and makeup trends, natural nails are also in this season. This isn’t an excuse to skip your mani, ladies. Maintain and moisturize those nails and cuticles, and pick a nude or natural blush color on your spa appointment. It is vital for this nail trend to keep your digits healthy.

Striped Nail Art

Keeping things simple seems to be a common nail trend for Spring/Summer 2015. A single stripe whether done in a metallic or contrasting bold color, can do so much and make a major beauty statement.

Matte and Metallic

Metallic and shiny is out, matte and metallic is what it’s all about. This looks best on short nails, and you can even opt to do a small half moon detail on your nail bed in another metallic and hit two nails trends in one. You can trot this nail trend out whether night or day, but it will look amazing against bronzed skin.

Spring 2015 Makeup Trends

Spring is just around the corner, and if your closet needs a refresh so does your beauty routine. The Spring 2015 runway was rife with beauty inspiration and artistic visuals. From spins of classic beauty looks to avant-garde flourishes, this season’s beauty looks ran the gamut. There were flirty and fun girly looks, eccentric graphic designs, but the most prevalent look was the minimal barely there makeup look. Wanna know more? Wing It 

This season takes the winged/cat eye trend that has been going strong for years now, and this time around the industry has upgraded it and made it more dramatic and geometric. You can either go for a fully lined cat eye look in blue liner or a heavily drawn on top liner with a futuristic feel, either way a more pronounced cat eye will do wonders in giving your spring look a modern uplift. These cat eye looks are perfect for evening, and will look great with your favorite LBD.

Doll Face

This season’s doll-like beauty look is all about pink lips and a wide-eyed look punctuated by high impact lashes. Lips that range from pinkish nude to hot pink Barbie lips, and lashes that range from 60s Twiggy-esque to 80s maximum volume drama, the doll face look has a variety of incarnations that you can play around and have fun with. This look is best paired with spring’s traditional floral frocks and pastel looks.

Red lips are always a permanent staple in the beauty industry lexicon. It is like a sleek black pump that never goes out of style. For Spring 2015, the red lips come in a more stained look. This “just bitten” look is especially perfect for balmy summer afternoons. Best paired with a bold, perfectly sculpted brow. This is a fuss-free way to get your beauty look on trend.

The smoky eye look isn’t exclusive to neutrals anymore. Shades of purple have been used to create a refreshing and colorful take on the smoky eye. Spring 2015’s most dominant beauty look is the barely there minimal makeup look. The perfect no makeup look always start with great skin, of course. Invest in your skincare and stick to routine that works for you to ensure that you have the best canvas for this beauty trend. The key to the no makeup look are groomed brows and a healthy looking complexion, which you can either use a bit of bronze or blush to achieve. Finish off with some lip balm and a tiny amount of gloss and you’re all set.

FFF: Flowers, figs, fashion

Sometimes even the wildest party people will trade in their social Friday night for a peaceful stay at home night with your loved ones.

Last Friday night I chose to do exactly that and had a lovely time with my family. On some photos my cat Millie looks like she would prefer a night out over my cuddles, but she is a sweetheart and loves it deep down. She is just shy on camera 🙂

So if you feel you are in the mood for cuddles this weekend just do it! Turn that phone off and spread the love.

For me, home isn’t really home without my cats. Their super soft fluffy warm hugs are irreplaceable! Couple it with a glass of wine after a long day and your evening is a guaranteed success.

I have also added a red lip and a dress with a gorgeous edible print. I would almost always choose a print like that over a flower print or any other girly print. Choose berries or fruits, so long as it is natural and sweet. The freshness will project to your face and skin and make you look just delicious.

Beauty Report: Fall 2014 Makeup Trends

Refresh your beauty routine and add a few products into your makeup kit this fall. Like your wardrobe, your makeup look should be seasonal too. There’s no need to make a radical overhaul of your beauty kit, you should keep your standard go-to products in there as a base, but also make room for trends in your makeup dresser.

Fall is always so exciting since it brings with it so much opportunity to experiment with something new and discover a new look that works with your natural beauty and enhances it. Here ‘s a rundown of my favorite beauty trends from the Fall 2014 runway:

Read My Lips

Lip color trends are what I look forward to the most each season. Your lipstick of choice is the easiest and quickest way to update your beauty look and make it more current. Donning seasonal shades and trendy colors drastically improve the overall impact of your makeup look. Moreover, lipstick shades don’t require too much commitment from you and it is so easy and fun to play around with different hues! At Missoni and Nicole Miller, lips reminiscent of summer and were orange-tinged, while Anna Sui and Zac Posen showed a glamorously intense scarlet lip. The reign of the bold and intense colored lip isn’t over yet. However, natural looking puckers are proving to be a worthy contender to this trend. Berry tinged lips at Prada and Carolina Herrera had me reaching for lip tint instead of full on lip color.

Au Naturel

This season, designers have embraced the normcore trend in beauty–the no makeup makeup look. This elusive and hard to achieve look is decidedly dewy with a natural glow. It’s not about mattifying this fall, it’s about showing off the natural beauty of your skin. Go back to basics and just opt for some light cover-up, cause nobody’s perfect after all. Some lip and cheeks stain will give just the right amount of color and finish off this look flawlessly.

Metal Detector

From Rodarte to Altuzarra, it was all about high-octane heavy metal this season. You can go really heavy handed with the glitter and the glam because that is exactly the most coveted and most high fashion beauty look for Fall 2014. If you’re feeling extra risky, you can even match your metallic eyeshadow with some metallic lip color. Forget that dark smoky eye and opt for silver, gold, and bronze on your lids for your next night out.

High Brow

Slow down on those tweezers girl. This season it’s time to let your brows grow out a little bit for the look that is inspired by fashion’s latest it girl, model and girl about town Cara Delevingne. These boyish inspired brows are sure to shoot up your chic factor by a thousand percent instantly. Keep them groomed and shaped with a simple routine of clear mascara or some light brow powder.

Mod Appeal

 

The 60s were a big decade on the runway for Fall 2014. From glitter go-go boots to pop art floral prints, the fashion industry is going mod this time around. Of course, beauty trends and looks are sure to follow the inspiration of the clothing, colors, prints, and fabrics. Twiggy-esque lashes are one of the most copied looks off the runway, not to mention the easiest to pull off and work into your everyday personal style. Open up those peepers with doll-like lashes, and make sure to separate those lashes after multiple coats of mascara.

Walk the Line

 

Go for maximum drama and high watt impact with your eyeliner, and take your cat-eye liner beyond your usual limits. It is exactly this exaggerated line and very editorial liner look that will separate your beauty look, and take you from ordinary to extraordinary. This is also a very wearable and versatile look that you can easily translate from day to night. Try this dramatic cat-eye in a colored line, if you dare.

Another September, another slew of hot beauty trends. No other beauty trend is as fun and playful as nail trends. Nail trends and nail art have been getting a lot of attention as of late, and that comes as no surprise since the past few years have seen a rise in nail salons, nail polish brands, and fascination and demand for anything and everything that relates to nail care, maintenance, and fashion. After all, you can never be fully dressed and in style if your digits are out of date.

Keep your tips n’ toes at the top of their game with the modern nail trends that have cropping up in the runways. Get inspired by them and do your own take (DIY, here we come!), or simply imitate these hot nail trends from designer runways and bring them to reality.  These nail trends are also great ways to increase the trendiness of your office ensembles, or even make your everyday denim uniform look more fashion forward. Nothing dresses up an outfit quite like well manicured fingers with some truly chic nail colour. The renaissance of 90s fashion has naturally extended into the beauty industry. One of the hottest hues this season is vampy red. The iconic Chanel Vamp is a modern classic, made popular by Uma Thurman in the movie Pulp Fiction. Gilded Beauty

Golden, bronze, or platinum silver; whatever metallic hue you choose you’ll be at the top of your nail game. Metallics just give an outfit that extra pop, fizz, and sparkle that it needs. A great DIY idea would be to layer all these metallics together or even use different metallics to give your nails a super trendy ombre effect.

Geometry

Do the math and learn your angles, it’s time to apply some line and geometric patterns to your nails. This minimalist yet very graphic nail trend is the one to watch. Get on this trend, and you’ll be one of the first–and the chicest too. Use bright colours to contrast with the negative space, it will really make your cutting edge avant garde mani stand out even more.
