Kim Kardashian’s fire emergency aside, this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards was full of fashion inspiration and sartorial surprises. Celebrating the very best of fashion design, the CFDA Awards this year did not fail to amaze and to provoke a deeper love for the industry and it’s creative minds.

But before we get to the awards part of the evening, let me bring you some choice red carpet snaps of my personal picks for best dressed.

Kim’s grommeted Proenza Schouler gown was undoubtedly one of the most memorable looks of the night. Those feathered shoulders brushed a candle at some point during the night, but luckily Pharrell was there to lend a hand. Wanna know more? Check Kim K.’s Instagram.

Which looks did you love? There were just so many good ones! Red carpet glamour and jaw-dropping fashion aside, the other great part of events is all those memorable quirky moments before the show, during the show, and after it. What better way to take a peek into the full CFDA experience than through Instagram? Here are my favorite Insta snaps from the night.

Chrissy Teigen‘s wardrobe malfunction had her date Stuart Weitzman coming to her rescue. Phew, that was a close call. She looks adorable in this Insta snap though!

Victoria Beckham is oozing elegance as she is escorted by fashion industry insider Hamish Bowles. Still working it even in the rain.

The night wouldn’t be complete without a Betsey Johnson split. The fun and forever young designer won the night’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and stayed true to her playfulness by repeatedly breaking out her splits throughout the night.

I hope you had as much fun as I had looking through all the fashion and Insta-worthy moments from the CFDA Awards. Until next year!

2015 Oscars Red Carpet Report

Latest trends

The Oscars is the most awaited and prestigious event of the awards season. For fashion lovers, celeb watchers, and style enthusiasts, the red carpet at the Oscars is the best time to spot the best beauty looks and most glamourous gowns. In an effort to be the best dressed star of the night, celebs pull out all the stops for the Oscars red carpet. This year was no exception. As most of Hollywood sashayed down the red carpet, us at home swooned over all the stunning (and some not-so-stunning) looks. Here are my picks for the best and worst dressed celebs at the 2015 Academy Awards.

BEST DRESSED

enhanced-11731-1424653109-16

My top pick for best dressed of the whole night has got to be Jennifer Lopez. Jaws dropped and the crowd ooh-ed and aah-ed as La Lopez strode into the venue in this blush Elie Saab creation. The delicate embellishment and voluminous ball skirt contrasted perfectly with the low cut of the front of the gown.  The color works perfectly with J.Lo’s skin. This is modern elegance personified.
enhanced-11832-1424645389-24Jamie Chung’s soft makeup look and luscious tressed with bouncy curls complemented the starburst adornment of her gown. The dark tulle overlay with the nude frock underneath is a great way to add dimension to an evening look. Choosing not to accessorize was a wise choice, as it let the gown design and sparkle take center stage.

enhanced-14941-1424653667-8Keira Knightley’s fairytale frock was a fashion risk, for sure, but it was one that paid off for her. With embroidery and delicate calligraphy all over her dress, Keira truly embodied a modern kind of romance. This look was certainly a step above your typical styled look for awards shows. Bravo.

enhanced-19624-1424647448-1

Now, you can’t expect musical duo Tegan and Sara to stroll in clad in matching ball gowns, do you? Of course not. The pair stayed true to their indie and edgy roots by opting to go the more tailored route. Leather details, crisp silhouettes, and subtle and sleek metallic accessories, both their looks are proof that you can tailor your evening looks to your personality. Gowns are great, but they are definitely not your only sartorial option for red carpets and black tie events.

enhanced-20383-1424654514-41

Jenna Dewan-Tatum has my vote in this luminescent and immaculate white number. She looks positively radiant in this column gown that is perfectly accented with some bling and a well-placed Art Deco inspired waist cincher. The simple yet elegant shape and cut of the gown makes her diamond cuff and earrings stand out even more. The red orange lip is a bold beauty move that makes her look a cut above the rest. enhanced-30835-1424647567-26

Faith Hill’s short pixie cut looks even more regal in this soft yet impactful wrap column dress. The long diamond lariat is the perfect accessory to go with the low cut front of the down. A simple smoky eye and dewy skin finish off this look nicely. enhanced-31456-1424650327-2Zoe Saldana shows off her amazing post-baby bod in this stunning rosy blush gown. The beautiful draping combined with the fashion forward ruching and just the right touch of sparkle from her diamond necklace makes this an A plus red carpet look.

WORST DRESSED
enhanced-5526-1424652070-2

Although Chloe Grace Moretz’s beauty look is on point (look at those brows), her dress is unfortunately left out in the cold. The fabric and cut just doesn’t do anything for her, and makes her look older than she actually is.

enhanced-32528-1424648303-16This robe/gown hybrid on Margot Robbie is proof that event the hottest bod can’t make a bad dress work. The length and the drape make this dress look more like a housecoat than a red carpet design. You can do better next time, Margot.

Emmy Awards 2014 Red Carpet: The Best and The Worst

Latest trends

The best thing about award shows? All the red carpet fashion, of course. Watching Hollywood in a fashion frenzy, observing trends, and seeing the hottest stars duke it out on the red carpet to see who comes out on top of best dressed lists are all what makes award shows so exciting for fashion fiends like us.

The red carpet is all about high glam and wowing the crowd with designer gowns, shiny bling, and well-chosen beauty looks. This year’s Emmy Awards was no exception. Stars sashayed down the red carpet in style and we excitedly watched from our TV screens. Red was the color of the night, and there was a wealth of plunging necklines, white gowns, and metallics too. Read on for more of my personal picks for best dressed and worst dressed on the red carpet.

Best Dressed

rs_634x1024-140825145245-634.Sarah-Hyland-Emmy-Awards.jl.082514

Sarah Hyland makes a strong case for crop tops with halter necklines in this Christian Siriano look  that is both age-appropriate and cocktail chic.

rs_634x1024-140825150319-634.taylor.cm.82514

Champagne gowns are usually a safe bet and a tad bit overdone on the red carpet, but Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling gives this Zuhair Murad beaded halter gown a dose of trendy style with a crystal ear cuff. Bravo, Taylor.

rs_634x1024-140825161124-634.january-jones.cm.82514

January Jones stood out from the sea of red dresses, and avoided looking like the red carpet itself, in this gorgeous Prabal Gurung creation. The textured quality of this jacquard fabric places it a cut above the rest, and her choice of footwear is superb. Those strappy black heels give the look its much needed edge.

rs_634x1024-140825161456-634.Julie-Bowen-Emmy-Awards.082514

The captivating digital print on this Peter Som gown is a refreshing and modern look for Modern Family star, Julie Bowen.

rs_634x1024-140825164147-634.michelle-dockery-emmy-awards-red-carpet-082514

One of the most distinctive and sophisticated looks on the red carpet, Michelle Dockery impresses in this Rosie Assoulin frock. The petal like chest detail done in pale pink, royal blue, and apple green is exquisite.

rs_634x1024-140825164805-634.lizzy.cm.82514

Lizzy Caplan looked like she belonged at the top of the A-list in this Donna Karan Atelier stunner. This look is proof that black need not be boring.

rs_634x1024-140825164847-634.amy-poehler-emmy-awards-red-carpet-082514

Amy Poehler opted for a design from up-and-coming Irish designer Don O’Neill, and her choice definitely paid off. This metallic, art deco inspired number is red carpet diva at its finest.

rs_634x1024-140825165442-634.Kerry-Washington-Emmy-Awards.2.jl.082514

Kerry Washington proves that Prada is a girl’s best friend in this unexpectedly sophisticated and intensely striking orange gown.

rs_634x1024-140825170449-634.Julia-Roberts-Emmy-Awards.ms.082514

Julia Roberts wears an embellished Elie Saab mini and achieved red carpet royalty status sans a floor length gown. The navy color of this ensemble is perfection.

Worst Dressed

rs_634x833-140825151522-634.mayim-bialik-emmy-awards-red-carpet-082514

Great beauty look, and great color. But Mayim Bialik commits a major fashion faux pas with a gown that looks more like a costume than an awards show dress.

66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Admittedly, the ombre color of the skirt is beautiful. However, the bob and the makeup and the white button down are all sartorial mistakes. Sorry, Lena Dunham, this look is a disaster.

rs_634x1024-140825151325-634.laura-prepon-emmy-awards-red-carpet-082514

Laura Prepon’s messy looking hair tendrils and awkward origami-like neck embellishment are not helping the already unfortunate and dated gown she’s wearing.

rs_634x1024-140825155904-634.kaley-cuoco-emmy-awards-red-carpet-082514

The bold pink and red combined with layers of tulle on Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting’s dress is too saccharine and looks too much like an old prom dress.

rs_634x1024-140825162114-634.christina-hendricks.cm.82514

Christina Hendricks usually looks va-va-voom on the red carpet, but she disappoints with a gown that has unflattering ruching and borderline tacky gold applique.

rs_634x1024-140825165450-634.paulson.cm.82514

Oh Sarah Paulson, I have no words. The overdose on tulle and red dots is not working at all.

rs_634x1024-140825165532-634.Mindy-Kaling-Emmy-Awards.ms.082514

Mindy Kaling scores a miss on the red carpet. The metallic details are current and chic, but the empire waist is so last year.

rs_634x1024-140825170042-634.Katherine-Heigl-Emmy-Awards.ms.082514

This is champagne gone wrong, the color and sheen just washes out Katherine Heigl.
