Best of Fashion Week Street Style: Paris

Latest trends

Paris is always an exciting place to be. Most especially during fashion week, of course. The City of Lights and Romance Capital of the World turns into a runway filled with the best street style looks from the European and international fashion elite. Everyone who’s anyone, and anyone who’s lucky enough to be invited to the shows pulls out all the stops and shows off all the sartorial tricks up their sleeve for Paris Fashion Week.

New York is urban. London is a little bit rebellious. Milan is sensual sophistication. Paris is all about making a unique statement clothed in a whole lotta glam. Here are the best looks and coolest trends I’ve spotted:

Leather and Lace

Leather and lace is one of those unusual fashion combinations that totally works. It’s tough gal meets modern romantic, girly meets punk. The marriage of these two materials almost always result in stunning looks. Paris fashionistas take it up a notch with unexpected silhouettes and daring hemlines.

Patent Animal Skin

Animal prints are pretty much wardrobe staples at this point. Take your love for animal skin to a more exotic and flamboyant level with the patent animal skin trend that positively ruled the Paris streets come fashion week. This trend isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re bold enough, you’re a shoo-in for the most stylish in the room. Just ask Anna Dello Russo.

Sleek and Sophisticated

Black is the ultimate in sleek and sophisticated. However, you can expect a little bit more from Parisian stylistas when it comes to styling this reliably chic color. From adding emerald green cropped biker jackets, adding a blazer for a menswear twist, and donning this eponymous color in its most alluring form–in leather, black is a go-to color to look chic. All these looks are proof that black is far from boring.

Sparkle and Shine

Embellishments like sequins and feathers need not be confined to evening wear. In fact, Paris fashion week street style has redefined evening wear and made it into everyday wear. Hey, if you have the confidence and panache to rock a fully embellished evening frock during the light of the day, then go for it. Parisian fashionistas are known to make their own rules after all. Only one rule applies: always be fabulous.

Printastic

Not just all about florals and stripes, Paris Fashion Week showed us an array of eye-popping prints that have a definite “shock and awe” value. Graphic black and white geometric lines, textured chevron with a sheen, and layered bohemian prints are just some of the print combinations that you should try for yourself.

Je ne sais quoi

Je ne sais quoi means “I don’t know what.” That’s the literal meaning. When one says ‘je ne sais quoi,’ it is used to describe someone’s desirability that stems from something intangible, something you can’t quite out your finger on. Paris Street Style has “je ne sais quoi” to a T. There is just something magical, and borderline otherworldly about the fashion choices that you are inspired to make whenever you find yourself in Paris. I mean, just take a look these amazing looks below. Giovanna Battaglia’s bell-like sleeves, and inexplicable lime green on lime green ensemble that surprisingly works, fur plus striped marsala–these are looks that look right at home on the trailblazing streets of Paris.

Style Icon: Madonna

Latest trends

Madonna has long been noted for her ever-changing looks. A true fashion chameleon, she has gone from fashion rebel in the 80s, sultry leather clad vixen in the 90s, avant-garde style maven in the 00’s, and finally to sophisticated glamazon. Her fashion line, Material Girl, with her daughter, Lola has been hugely successful and a testament to her fashion prowess. She is a true quadruple threat, Madonna is a singer, dancer, actress, and designer. A true style icon.

Here are some of my favorite Madonna looks:

Green fringe, Veronica Lake inspired waves, and a bold red lip spell Old Hollywood glam. But the armful of bangles on each arm say modern and edgy.

Pictured with her gorgeous daughter, Lola, Madonna goes back to her 80s roots with sexy lace and fur.

I am simply in love with this satin embellished gown! Such a departure from typical red carpet glam.

Who can pull of this menswear inspired outfit better than Madonna? No one. Gotta love those diamond encrusted gloves.

Clad in Versace, Madonna shows off her yoga-toned bod while dripping in jewels.

A frequent collaborator of famous photographer duo, Mert and Marcus, Madonna wows once again in this Marilyn Monroe inspired shoot.

Another Mert and Marcus collaboration for Interview Magazine, this photo is an update of her style back in the 80s. I love those stacked chain arm candy!

Mert and Marcus are incredible when capturing Madonna’s verve and unique energy. This shoot for her MDNA album is like a throwback to the time of Gaultier bustiers and Vogue-ing. I love it!

And there you have it, Madonna’s awesomeness knows no age and knows no bounds. I love seeing ho her style evolves each time. What is your favourite Madonna fashion moment?  Share it with me!

Style Icon: Lady Gaga

Style Icons

From her infamous meat dress to the legendary McQueen heels she constantly rocks, there is no doubt that Lady Gaga has cemented her style icon status in fashion history. Stefani Germanotta, also known as Lady Gaga, is a reminder that fashion isn’t just about comfort or trends, it is about provocation.

A rebel and renegade when it comes to culture, music, and fashion, Gaga considers fashion as a big part of her artistry. This Mother Monster and ArtPop maven is blazing the trail for those who tread the off-the-beaten path and thrive on taking fashion risks.

Fortune favors the brave, as they say. Take inspiration from Lady Gaga’s bravado and style savvy, and take a little walk on the wild side of fashion. Here are 10 of my favorite looks from Lady Gaga:

Lady Gaga never ever does a basic street style look. Ballet flats is foreign to her vocabulary. Here she struts in the highest of heels and, though this outfit is relatively simple for Gaga, she still puts her own unique twist to it with the renaissance painting print on her dress. Elements of art is a main component in her personal style.

One of her earlier looks, the hair bow and the pink neon pumps combination is a modern take on Minnie Mouse. This is is vintage Gaga doing what she does best, which is taking a pop culture reference and making it a part of her creative expression.

Hooded blazers with sharp shoulder angles is right up Lady Gaga’s alley. Throughout her sartorial journey, you will spot this details. Gaga loves hooded jackets, blazers, and cover-up–it just adds that extra layer of mystery.

Gaga works a bit of grandma chic as she steps out in this ensemble. Appropriating brocade, pearls, and handheld frame bags and making it her own, Gaga works her fashion magic and gives granny outfits a dose of haute couture.

Outrageous hats and headpieces are one of Lady Gaga’s fashion signatures. This stunning teal and pink color blocked dress still manages to look sleek while being edgy, especially when it is paired with that sculptural headpiece.

Lady-Gaga-Chanel-Opening-Barneys-NY

This is how Lady Gaga does Chanel. With a pair of studded to the max platforms, Gaga dons a Chanel ball gown along with the brand’s bag and accessories. This is the Chanel tweed suit gone haute couture.

2014 MusiCares Person Of The Year Honoring Carole King

When Lady Gaga walks the red carpet in an elegant white dress like this, people are more surprised. She can definitely still make entrance without the hoopla. Standing on her own sense of style, Gaga can look sophisticated and impeccably chic. She certainly does that in this pristine white gown with an embellished waist detail.

LadyGaga_GL_13sep10_pa_b_592x888_3

The queen of ArtPop proves why she owns that title in this McQueen frock. Emblazoned with a print of Renaissance art and topped with an amazing gold feather Phillip Treacy hat creation, this is uniquely Gaga at her evening wear best.

lady-gaga-crazy-shoes_0

Lady Gaga popularized these shockingly high heel-less heels, and made heel-less shoes the next big thing in the mid 00’s. These gravity defying heels is now definitely a part of fashion history.

11-Japan-green-leather-Lady_0

How does Lady Gaga dress for the airport? In head to toe forest green, of course. From the immaculate leather coat dress, her Louboutins, and green hair to match, Gaga shows us why she is and will always be one of this century’s style icons and one of fashion’s foremost rebels.

I love Lady Gaga! And even if I can’t rock 7-inch heels like her on a daily basis, I continue to be inspired by her amazing and fearless love of fashion. Spread the Gaga love!
