The Full Report on Nicki vs. Miley

“Miley, what’s good?”

Those fighting words from Nicki Minaj were heard all around the world last Sunday night during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.

The potential for drama was high that night. Between Nicki vs. Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift vs. Kanye, there definitely was tension in the air. We just didn’t expect that sparks would fly between Nicki and Miley.

If you missed out last Sunday and were not able to watch, or if you simply live under a rock, here’s the video of what went down during  the awards show between Nicki and Miley:

Phew. That was intense right?

Other people were crying, “Staged!” But most sources (and even Nicki herself) declares the authenticity of this moment. This beef and this heated exchange wasn’t staged and it wasn’t an act. Just look at Miley’s genuinely shocked expression on the video. This was a direct result of an earlier interview that Miley did where she made comments about Nicki Minaj’s concluded Twitter beef with Taylor Swift.

Here’s a brief recap if you’re still clueless.

Last July, Nicki Minaj called out her lack of video of the year nomination for Anaconda. She stated that because she wasn’t white and skinny, her pop culture phenomenon chart-topping song and video was snubbed. Taylor Swift took offense and thought it to be a pointed tweet to her, but Nicki denied that it was meant for T-Swizzle and they ended the misunderstanding quickly. I mean, they did perform together during the VMAs.

So there’s no bad blood there.

A mere days before the VMA Awards, which Cyrus was slated to host, Miley’s comment regarding this whole Nicki vs. Taylor issue was published.

Miley Cyrus said, “If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it … What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite.”

Wow.

Obviously Nicki Minaj did not take to Miley’s comment kindly. AT ALL. A lot of people, Nicki included clearly, that Miley’s comment was way too personal and basically stereotyped Nicki as an angry black woman.

As she came up onstage to receive the Best Hip Hop Video for Anaconda, she then called out Miley.

That anger is real.

So whose side are you on? Are you Team Nicki or Team Miley?

One thing is for sure though, their confrontation aside, both ladies served up provocative fashion on the red carpet.

Nicki and Miley can certainly serve up some exceptional red carpet sexiness though.

CFDA Awards 2015 Report

Kim Kardashian’s fire emergency aside, this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards was full of fashion inspiration and sartorial surprises. Celebrating the very best of fashion design, the CFDA Awards this year did not fail to amaze and to provoke a deeper love for the industry and it’s creative minds.

But before we get to the awards part of the evening,let me bring you some choice red carpet snaps of my personal picks for best dressed.

Kim’s grommeted Proenza Schouler gown was undoubtedly one of the most memorable looks of the night. Those feathered shoulders brushed a candle at some point during the night, but luckily Pharrell was there to lend a hand. Wanna know more? Check Kim K.’s Instagram.

Shayne Oliver,the designer behind hip and happening brand Hood By Air, won the Swarovski Award for Menswear.

If you haven’t heard of Mansur Gavriel, you’re not a true fashionista. The covetable minimalist bucket bags from the brands are must-haves for It girls everywhere. Floriana Gavriel and Rachel Mansur, the creatives behind the brand, won the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design.

Kanye West presented Pharrell Williams with the Fashion Icon Award. He completely deserves it. His recent collaboration with Adidas is proof of his design acumen and style savvy.

The night wouldn’t be complete without a Betsey Johnson split. The fun and forever young designer won the night’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and stayed true to her playfulness by repeatedly breaking out her splits throughout the night.

Style Icon: Kim Kardashian

Love her or hate her, you can’t deny that Kim Kardashian’s style evolution is nothing short of amazing. From tabloid fodder and reality TV star, Kim Kardashian-West is now a bona fide fashion industry insider. Not only did she make the cover of Vogue this year, she is hobnobbing with the fashion industry’s best and brightest. Just check out her Instagram. Oliver Rousteing, Riccardo Tisci, and Carine Roitfeld are all her buddies.

Whether this style change is her hubby, Kanye West’s doing or not, Kim still pulls off every single ensemble with her own panache. Constantly draped in directional and chic couture, it is no doubt that Kim K. is cementing her place as a modern style icon. Here are my top picks of her 10 best looks:

The combination of that mustard yellow coat and eggplant colored crop top is unexpectedly chic. This look is composed of two pieces which have now become Kim’s signature–the oversized robe coat and hip-hugging pencil skirt. You will do well to invest in these two trendy pieces as well, it’ll give you chic points almost instantly. 

Showing off her love for Kanye, she dresses up her Yeezus concert tee with a cropped leather motorcycle jacket and black distressed denim. Heeled sandals finish off this casual look that packs a lot of glam and edge. 

Doing her own twist on the blazer and jeans look, Kim sports a pair of matching gray tee and jeans. That leather blazer with brass buttons is a statement making piece that gives the denim and tee a high dose of haute fashion. The white pumps are also a great way to lighten up this look and make it more daytime appropriate.

Matching sets are queen this year. Kim does her own take on the trend with a cowl neck crop top and pencil skirt combination. What makes this look stand out is her smart styling choices, the blush color is totally fashion forward and the high ponytail and embellished minaudiere adds to that effect.

Kim’s super cute Chanel Parfum acrylic purse goes to show that she has fun with fashion. This playful piece makes the rest of her tailored look more powerful and interesting. I also love the softness and slight drape of her blazer.

You can’t really expect a less than stellar airport look from Kim K. She jazzes up her all black winter outfit with a mini snakeskin Hermes bag. The animal print and rich texture stands out even more against her chic all black look.

Kim could teach a master class in donning a pencil skirt. She simply looks stunning in this red knit pencil skirt and dove gray mock turtleneck sweater. This look is proof that it’s all about the silhouette, you can wear two skin tight pieces together without looking trashy. This is a certainly classy look, punctuated by an amazing pair of red ankle strap PVC stiletto heels. 

This midnight blue creation is perfection to say the least. From the surprising color choice, the thigh high slit,down to the vintage inspired T-strap heels, Kim totally ruled the red carpet in this frock. The simple yet sophisticated beauty look and accessory styling adds to the Old Hollywood vibe.

Can we please look this good walking through the airport? Kim dresses up a comfy denim button down with a tuxedo blazer and peach hued leather pants. All these 3 pieces work so harmoniously to make her look every bit the superstar.

Kim can officially be called the reigning queen of oversized coats. She makes a play once again for this dramatic outerwear silhouette, and marries it with the winter white trend. Mixing different neutral hues of cream and beige, this look is the very definition of modern elegance.
