Style Icon: Miley Cyrus

Teen queen turned fashion and pop culture provocateur Miley Cyrus is a style icon in her own right. Having transformed before our eyes from Disney pop princess into a bona fide fashion insider, her recent collaboration with Jeremy Scott is further proof of her fashion prowess and unique style sensibility. She can go from red carpet glam to high street brash and bold fashion in a snap. This is what makes her so exciting, what Miley wears is always a clear reflection of her mood and where she is in her life. It is so transparent and simply thrilling to watch and observe. Miley does tailored in this red carpet look. Her cutting edge and modern take on the pantsuit involves bright yellow athletic piping and a mandarin collar top with sheer paneling. Wearing a black bra underneath a white top is a very Miley move that shows she’s no red carpet rookie. She can turn even a fashion faux pas into a moment of chicness. 

You wouldn’t expect to see Miley in a Canadian tuxedo (read: denim on denim look), and yet here she is pulling it off excellently and putting her own twist to it, of course. The long white talons, royal blue minimalist sandals, and her spiky bleached blonde hair are outfit add-ons that are so Miley.

A matching full tea skirt and crop top make for a ladylike ensemble. However, black and white perforated mesh detailing add a definitely daring spin on the matching set trend. I also love how Miley styled this look simply, opting to let these striking separates take center stage and keep the accessories and beauty look at a minimum.

This casual street style look is signature Miley. Youthful, playful, and fun, the Converse sneaks, oversized white tee and flannel shirt combo is a little bit country and a little bit rock n’ roll. Just like Miley. Layered and chunky gold bling, a messy top knot, oval sunnies, and a black leather studded carryall  make this the quintessential young Hollywood pavement pounding outfit.

This is the look that best captures Miley’s style of the moment. A little bit more grown up and polished, and plenty more fashion forward, this monochromatic look has elements of street like a leather motorcycle jacket and chunky heeled creepers that blend with classic black pieces for a stunning evening look.

Equal parts edgy, chic, and incredibly fashion forward, this all leather ensemble is just what you would expect from Miley on a red carpet event. It’s young and fun while still looking sophisticated, and reveals just the right amount of skin. The metallic sandal is a great footwear choice that nicely rounds out this A plus red carpet style.

Miley can go glam too. With slicked back hair, smoky eyes, and a splendid glittering column gown, it certainly displays her penchant for bold look-at-me styles. This gown is feminine and yet the green sequins elevates it from your traditional evening gown. The halter neckline is an excellent detail too.

Runway Review: Alexander Wang Spring 2015

Credited as being chiefly responsible for the now ubiquitous athletic trend, Alexander Wang comes to the runway yet again with a new and refreshing take on sportswear meets high fashion. His love for sneakers and sporty pieces has birthed an ongoing fashion revolution as fashionistas and consumers alike continue to elevate sneakers, joggers, and hoodies into a higher level of chic.

This Spring/Summer 2015 season, Alexander Wang did not send models down the runway in sneakers. The footwear was still of sporty inspiration though, with woven fabric, mesh, and rubber used as materials for the heels that the models wore. The presence of sneaker culture was shown in the clothes themselves, as iconic sneaker designs and prints consistently showed up and shaped the design of the collection. Here’s my 10 favorites from the Alexander Wang Spring 2015 Runway:

One would not equate the Alexander Wang brand to office style, but this particular look will look perfect for work. Both the white blazer and crisp trousers are tailored to perfection, and the woven heels add a color splash to this black and white look.

Inspired by the hottest sneaks to storm the scene, the Nike Flyknits, this orange body con dress can be a graphic and more contemporary alternative to your LBD.

Yellow, gray, and black; get inspired by how visually interesting all three colors look when combined together. The ribbing on the bright top is especially chic.

A lightweight jersey maxi like this one can be a major statement, one that shows off your high level and haute couture chops. I can definitely see this modern stunner on celebs with edgy style like Rihanna or Miley.

Wear your love for Jordans on your sleeve. Literally. The signature Jordan sneaker print is made into a sweater that’ll look just as good when paired with your everyday denim and ballet flats.

Substitute your trusty leather motorcycle jacket for this structured mesh piece. The red piping is a detail that’ll make a difference on your outfits.
