Best of Fashion Week Street Style: Paris

Latest trends

Paris is always an exciting place to be. Most especially during fashion week, of course. The City of Lights and Romance Capital of the World turns into a runway filled with the best street style looks from the European and international fashion elite. Everyone who’s anyone, and anyone who’s lucky enough to be invited to the shows pulls out all the stops and shows off all the sartorial tricks up their sleeve for Paris Fashion Week.

New York is urban. London is a little bit rebellious. Milan is sensual sophistication. Paris is all about making a unique statement clothed in a whole lotta glam. Here are the best looks and coolest trends I’ve spotted:

Leather and Lace

Leather and lace is one of those unusual fashion combinations that totally works. It’s tough gal meets modern romantic, girly meets punk. The marriage of these two materials almost always result in stunning looks. Paris fashionistas take it up a notch with unexpected silhouettes and daring hemlines.

Patent Animal Skin

Animal prints are pretty much wardrobe staples at this point. Take your love for animal skin to a more exotic and flamboyant level with the patent animal skin trend that positively ruled the Paris streets come fashion week. This trend isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re bold enough, you’re a shoo-in for the most stylish in the room. Just ask Anna Dello Russo.

Sleek and Sophisticated

Black is the ultimate in sleek and sophisticated. However, you can expect a little bit more from Parisian stylistas when it comes to styling this reliably chic color. From adding emerald green cropped biker jackets, adding a blazer for a menswear twist, and donning this eponymous color in its most alluring form–in leather, black is a go-to color to look chic. All these looks are proof that black is far from boring.

Sparkle and Shine

Embellishments like sequins and feathers need not be confined to evening wear. In fact, Paris fashion week street style has redefined evening wear and made it into everyday wear. Hey, if you have the confidence and panache to rock a fully embellished evening frock during the light of the day, then go for it. Parisian fashionistas are known to make their own rules after all. Only one rule applies: always be fabulous.

Printastic

Not just all about florals and stripes, Paris Fashion Week showed us an array of eye-popping prints that have a definite “shock and awe” value. Graphic black and white geometric lines, textured chevron with a sheen, and layered bohemian prints are just some of the print combinations that you should try for yourself.

Je ne sais quoi

Je ne sais quoi means “I don’t know what.” That’s the literal meaning. When one says ‘je ne sais quoi,’ it is used to describe someone’s desirability that stems from something intangible, something you can’t quite out your finger on. Paris Street Style has “je ne sais quoi” to a T. There is just something magical, and borderline otherworldly about the fashion choices that you are inspired to make whenever you find yourself in Paris. I mean, just take a look these amazing looks below. Giovanna Battaglia’s bell-like sleeves, and inexplicable lime green on lime green ensemble that surprisingly works, fur plus striped marsala–these are looks that look right at home on the trailblazing streets of Paris.

Runway Review: Chanel Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Latest trends

There was the Chanel supermarket then Brasserie Chanel, and now comes Chanel Airlines.

Airport Style has been buzzed about a lot. Fashion and street style websites and social media have all been obsessed with what celebrities and bloggers wear to the airport. Having style while in transit has never been as important as it is now. And Chanel has definitely picked up on the zeitgeist, just like it always does. With an impressive Chanel Airlines set and the creative genius that we’ve come to expect from Karl Lagerfeld each season, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Chanel is one of the most talked-about and highly praised shows this Spring 2016 Fashion Week season.

chanel-spring-2016-airport-set-runway-show-w724

There were a lot of impressive looks that went down the runway. Lagerfeld, time and time again, expertly combined modern trends with signature Chanel detailing to stellar results. Before we get into my favorite looks, let me show you the details that I fell in love with from the Chanel Spring 2016 RTW collection.

chanel-spring-2016-runway-airport-suitcase-like-quilted-jacket-h724

You can’t really have a travel-centric collection without chic luggage. I mean, how adorable is this quilted Chanel luggage set? I’m in love with the pop of neon yellow, and I love how the luggage somehow resembles some detail of the classic Chanel jacket.

_A2X0186

If you’re still in doubt that blue eyeshadow is making a comeback, look no further that Chanel’s beauty look this season.

_A2X0559

Airplane prints on knit separates somehow feel very 60s and oh-so-chic.

_A2X0912

Baseball caps were a popular runway accessory, and you can bet this hat trend will find its way to your closet soon.

_A2X1024

Airplane pins are another quirky accessory trend that is totally wearable. I think I’m going to get one.

There were a lot of noteworthy trends from Chanel this season. Aside from the accessory and print trends I mentioned above, Lagerfeld dazzled us with artsy oversized mirrored sunglasses, billowy and voluminous skirts worn over pants, silver and PVC low-heeled booties, studded flatforms, layered silver chokers, and metallic biker gloves. The silhouettes this season was decidedly more laid-back, with a double breasted and more casual incarnation of the tweed suit (as worn by Kendall Jenner below) and soft-to-the-touch coordinating knit sets. I especially love Chanel’s take on patchwork denim, which is less boho and more tailored and structured. There is also a more feminine flair to this collection with hem embellishments and ruffles bisecting pieces that have a more forgiving loose silhouettes. I am certainly loving the more playful direction Lagerfeld took Chanel this season. The whole show is just a visual feast, from the prints to the colors, there is so much inspiration for your eyes to take in!

Runway Review: Oscar De La Renta Spring 2016

Latest trends, Reviews

Peter Copping is currently at the helm of the fashion house, Oscar de la Renta. Taking over for such an eponymous designer and historic brand is not an easy task, but Copping is more than up to the task. His recent Spring 2016 collection was inspired by the romance and danger of Spanish matadors. Copping took color inspiration from Oscar himself by centering his collection on a beautiful shade of dark carnation red that Oscar favors. One of the most memorable collection for the Spring 2016 Fashion Week, I loved how this season the brand really embraced its signature sensual femininity.

Here are my personal picks for the most memorable runway looks for Oscar de la Renta Spring 2016:

_OSC0035

Capes are going strong this season. You can clearly see the matador inspiration here. Consider capes your go-to spring outerwear.

_OSC0065

Lace + carnation print + ruffles + the perfect shade of vibrant red = STUNNING.

_OSC0077

For women who love black, this is an amazing, modern yet totally romantic way to get more color into your wardrobe. A bold red hue peeking underneath a sheer black dress with beautiful pleating details is simply sophisticated.

_OSC0185

A more fashion forward alternative to the trendy slip dress, I love that this dress has the right amount of sheerness. Take note of the floral applique on the pumps too! How elegant!

_OSC0261

Espadrilles are the quintessential summer shoe, and I love how they styled the runway ensembles around this typically casual shoe. These espadrilles are another indication of the Spanish influence in the collection.

_OSC0423

Hunter Green moves into spring with this flirty halter neck eyelet dress. Bring out those cabochon statement earrings for daytime, and style it just like this runway look. So chic!

_OSC0501

The tiered ruffles and the painterly appeal of the carnation print make this dress a standout. The lace and ruffled collar neck give it a Victorian feel.

_OSC0629

This seafoam green turquoise color hybrid is one of the brighter hues in this collection. It really stands out from the predominantly red and black pieces. I also love how the sweater is belted at the waist and paired with a shimmery skirt. Office style inspiration, for sure.

_OSC0699

Mustard yellow lace? Yes, please. This is such a refreshing and dramatic take on the summer lace dress.

_OSC0841

A multi-color pom pom sweater worn over a slinky peek-a-boo lace dress? I can totally see the Olsens or Miley in this look. Sexy and feminine yet still so cutting edge.

And now we come to the forte of the Oscar de la Renta fashion house, EVENING WEAR. Is there anyone better than Oscar de la Renta when it comes to glamour that is equal parts show-stopping and jaw-dropping in its elegance? Nobody does it better than de la Renta. Even Carrie Bradshaw knows that. For some serious evening gown inspiration, or envy, take a look at my picks below. Watch out for these beautiful frocks in the coming months, I am so sure that Hollywood celebrities and style stars will be lining up to wear these.

Which de la Renta look did you love? I absolutely fell head over heels for the last look! The off-shoulder detail and the glove-looking sleeve is TO DIE FOR.

Paris Fashion Week Top 5 Runway Shows

Latest trends

It’s that time of the year again, fashion week is upon us. Well, more like fashion month actually. This whirlwind of fashion, art, and design inspiration has me wide-eyed over all the creativity and innovation I’ve been seeing, From New York to London, and Milan to Paris, fashion week is further proof of how magical and amazing fashion is. I’ve gotta say though that I am especially in love with Paris Fashion Week. Paris is the birthplace of esteemed and historic fashion houses like Balenciaga, Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few, which is exactly why Paris Fashion Week is extra special for me. Here I give you a rundown of the top 5 shows I loved this Fall 2015 season.

Miu Miu

Miuccia Prada has consistently churned memorably playful and witty collection for Miu Miu, this Fall 2015 was no exception. 50s inspired silhouettes in a plethora of colors and textures sashayed down the runway. Cabochon statement necklaces and earrings adorned each look, and is sure to herald the comeback of these baubles this year so take note fashionistas. Knits, pleats, snakeskin, and check prints, there are just so much visual inspiration in this one.

_011miu-miu _016miu-miu _032miu-miu

Balmain

Creative Director for Balmain, Oliver Rousteing, does it again. The signature modern Balmain look is all about glitz, rock n’ roll, and serious tailoring and detail of course. This collection was heavily inspired by the unapologetic glamour and pomp of disco era 70s. Rousteing’s take on the 70s consisted of micropleating, velvet, graphic stripes, oversized belts, and lots and lots of bright and bold jewel tones. A lot of red carpet stunners in this collection. Also noteworthy are the velvet heels in this show.

_MON0007 _MON0069b _MON0423

Sacai

If you don’t know about up and coming brand Sacai, consider yourself informed. This brand helmed by Commes des Garcons and Junya Watanabe trained Chitose Abe has got the whole fashion world in a tizzy. Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour, and Suzy Menkes all consider themselves fans of this brand. So you better get on board with Sacai’s unique silhouettes and forward thinking designs. I mean, how awesome is the cable knit embossed print on leather? Knit and leather have always made a good match, and Sacai takes this duo elevates it even further.

Chanel

Chanel wows fashion fans once again with its brilliant Brasserie Gabrielle concept. Set in a traditional French brasserie, Karl Lagerfeld’s high concept design with futuristic tetrahedrons with tweed contrast perfectly with Parisian flair of the brasserie. His collection truly celebrates what’s great about Paris. My personal style picks from the show are the cap toe low block heels, tied ribboned belts, mosaic embroidery, and the distinctly contemporary bourgeois feel of the collection.

Isabel Marant

It Girl fashion fave Isabel Marant stays consistent with what she’s always been known for, which is wearable designs that combine her signature edge with figure flattering silhouettes. High waist trousers, stripes and tribal prints dominated the collection. Touches of femininity like ruffles and nautical preppy buttons were also present. Note the striped sweater and high waist paper bag trouser combo, I reckon it’ll be a prevalent ensemble for the season to come.

Style Icon: Kendall Jenner

Latest trends, Style Icons

Kendall Jenner stormed the runways with a purpose this year. Renaming herself, simply Kendall, she was determined to be taken as a serious, high fashion model this year. Often quoted saying that being a Kardashian has been the opposite of beneficial for her modeling career, Kendall’s stellar success this season is proof that she is slowly making her way up to Karlie Kloss modern supermodel status. The VS Angel rumors are a good indication of a budding and promising career in the modeling world.

Kendall had a lot of memorable turns at the runway this Spring 2015, and even more than that, she has shown that she has the fashion chops to pull of the ever elusive and highly coveted model off duty street style. I give you the rundown of her top 5 runway appearances and her top 5 off-duty looks.

kendal-fw-moments-01

The gingham-filled Diane Von Furstenberg collection got a lot of mentions and accolades from the fashion press. Kendall’s runway look is one of the best in the show, this DVF frock is classically timeless and feminine.

kendal-fw-moments-02

Kendall wowed on the Tommy Hilfiger show with a youthful and flirty bikini, with equally playful and adorable star tattoos.

Marc Jacobs - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015

Almost unrecognizable in a blunt bob wig, Kendall stomps down the Marc Jacobs runway in golden and glimmering sporty slides that continue to echo that shower sandals/chunky flatform trend.

Ports1961 - Runway - Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Spring/Summer 2015

Radiant and resplendent on the Ports 1961 show at Milan Fashion Week, this sheer gossamer ensemble looks gorgeous on Kendall. This look is perfect for summers on the Italian riviera.

Balmain : Runway - Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Spring/Summer 2015

Of course Kendall had to walk down the Balmain runway. She’s best buds with Oliver Rousteing after all. Thin bands hold together this tough looking dress, with a definite rock n’ roll vibe.

You can’t call yourself a bona fide model if you can’t pull off a classic white T-shirt, and make it look glamourous. Major style points for you Kendall, your strappy heels and leather leggings are the perfect pieces to go with your casually cool white tee.

image (2)

The best way to balance a sky high sexy side slit? With a boxy fur vest, of course.

image (3)

Ladylike with a touch of mod, this is the right way to do a matching printed pantsuit while still looking young and chic.

Another model off duty style trademark? Wearing menswear-inspired footwear with almost everything. Kendall’s gold captoe monk strap brogues instantly upgrade her white trousers and slouchy tee outfit.

Kendall flaunts her legs for days in the perfectly nonchalant afterparty outfit, an oversized tee worn as a dress with over-the-knee slinky suede boots.

The Best of Paris Fashion Week Spring 2015 Street Style

Latest trends

Fashion month was a whirlwind of runways, celebrities, models, and jaw dropping designer collections. My favorite part of fashion month? The incredible street style, of course. As fashion folks flock to the fashion capitals (New York, Milan, London and Paris) to catch all the shows, their stellar style goes on full display on the streets. Fashion Week basically serves up heaps and heaps of wardrobe inspiration for all of us to take in. Here are my picks for the best of Paris Fashion Week Spring 2015 Street Style:

hbz-pfw-ss2015-street-style-day7-07-58219786-lg

Leave it to fashion editor Joanna Hillman to show us the best way to style up a white tee and elevate it to truly epic and memorable street style.  Pants with a slight wide leg and a fringe jacket give this look a subtle yet very present 70s vibe. Trendy necklaces still show off her fashion savvy.

hbz-pfw-ss2015-street-style-day7-10-76628365-lg

One can’t do a fashion week street style roundup without including  a look with the ubiquitous Chloe rounded crossbody bag. Her boxy and oversized bomber jacket goes together perfectly with 90s pieces like her denim pencil skirt and black leather mules.

hbz-pfw-ss2015-street-style-day7-23-lg

Long silhouettes and a large, roomy top handle tote show you that pieces that are high in drama can and do look good when worn all at once. The key is to keep it simple, a long bright red sweater dress with a charcoal gray long cardi are streamlined items that when combined produce an impactful outfit.

hbz-pfw-ss2015-street-style-day7-39-lg

A black jumpsuit can look basic and too simple. Give it some accessory flourish with a pair of bright bubblegum pink heels. Toting a striped black and white blazer gives it an even more contemporary and graphic pop.

hbz-pfw-ss2015-street-style-day8-02-lg

Fringe, tribal print, and a substantial turtleneck are three microtrends that are encapsulated in this singular item. The colorblock mini bag gives this statement dress some much needed contrast from all the boho details.

pfw-72

The sneaker fashion revolution show no sign of stopping and slowing down this season. Polka dot denim and these chic maroon sneaks certainly improve an otherwise plain gray jumper.

pfw-82

Blanket coats/ponchos are another hot ticket item this fall. Wearing it with casual skinny denim and plimsolls make it look more youthful and appropriate for everyday dressing.

pfw-91

The coquettish lace and ribbons in this feminine frock and its accompanying vintage inspired tote is balanced by tough girl studded footwear.

pfw-97

A knit jumper that is oversized makes a powerful style declaration. Offset the voluminous sweater with sleek details like slinky leather leggings and equally slick leather boots.

pfw-108

No need to retire your love of pink as the season turns into fall. Try your hand at the “tied at the waist” trend and combine it with your penchant for some rosy color.

PFW-Street-Style-Day-5

Classic Stan Smith sneaks go so well with a matching two-piece set. You can’t go wrong with the stylish duo of a cropped sweater and pencil skirt.

PFW-Street-Style-Day-6 (1)

Over-the-knee boots are another footwear trend to watch and try. The best way to wear it? Let the boots be the center of attention and wear it with a sophisticated yet simple frock.

PFW-Street-Style-Day-6

The 70s are back in a big way, and this look makes a pretty strong case for it. Denim bell-bottoms with a tucked in polka dot blouse, this is 70s style done right.

PFW-Street-Style-Day-7 (1)

Perk up your neutrals by adding tropical prints into the mix. Layer your cropped tops from the summer over your fall closet staples like a crisp and tailored oxford shirt.

PFW-Street-Style-Day-7

All white after Labor Day is not a fashion faux pas anymore. Bending or breaking the rules is the new sartorial standard, the only requirement now is standout style and chicness, and this look definitely achieves that. The coordinating menswear pant and boxy vest in an understated print anchor the white elements of this look effortlessly.

What’s your favorite look from this roundup? Let me know in the comments!

Runway Review: Dries Van Noten Spring 2015

Latest trends

As we see the first model step out onto the runway, we realize that the runway is not the ordinary kind. A moss covered ground akin to an enchanted forest covers the entire length of the runway, this was a carpet art installation commissioned by Dries Van Noten and created by Argentinean artist Alexandra Kehayoglou. The soft, yellow lighting and the entire set should serve as an indication for things to come for Dries Van Noten this Spring 2015, a delicate and provocative update on hippie/bohemian fashion, with his signature tailoring and menswear inspiration still present, of course. A beautiful array of prints sashayed down the catwalk, layered and styled to perfection. Silks, brocades, and graphic chiffon were all noteworthy prints in this collection. Color, pattern as well plays on heavy and light elements make this collection one of the best during Paris Fashion Week. See my top picks for the best looks from the show below:

DVN_0728

Echoing a prominent trend, the long vest, this look captures the essence of the exotic nature and adventure of travel.

DVN_0781

Note the twig branch used as a necklace and small frames as outfit extras that drive home the modern hippie aesthetic of the show.

DVN_0866

Hey, even bohemians can appreciate some good-old glitter. Expertly paired with a print on print patchwork skirt, the muted tones of the skirt play off the vibrant purple of the sequined top nicely.

DVN_0663

You can say that this is one of the signature looks in the show. A vintage necktie print on top paired with an easy laidback pajama pant silhouette with an updated twist.

DVN_0628

One of my favorite looks for sure. The flowing chiffon in this gorgeous print balances off the color and cut of the pants.

DVN_0589

Pinstripes aren’t just for the office, these voluminous trousers can attest to that. The fringe top pairing with it is an absolute wardrobe inspo.

DVN_0349

Pinstripe blazers get a chic update with different line configurations, a small detail that makes a world of a difference.

DVN_0174

The thin straps of this layered chiffon striped maxi is an awesome detail that harks back to the 90s slipdress trend.

DVN_0129

I can certainly see this covetable jewel-toned striped dress in every woman’s must-have list come Spring 2015.

DVN_0049

Fur for spring? Yes, please. The furry clutches that Van Noten showed off brings new meaning to seasonal accessorizing.

DVN_1092

As the models slowly lay down on the moss-covered floor for the show’s finale. We get the distinct impression that Dries Van Noten has started a legitimate 70s fashion revival.

Did you like the Dries Van Noten show? What other Paris Fashion Week shows did you love?

Runway Review: Miu Miu Spring 2015

Latest trends

Miuccia Prada wows fashion lovers once again with her recent Miu Miu Spring 2015 show. The Prada brand’s little sister has always been more rebellious, more coquettish, more youthful, and more subversive. More so now with this Spring 2015 offering from Miu Miu annexing bad girl/naughty schoolgirl stereotypes for a truly unforgettable show. Large bows on leather slip-on mules and sky-high chunky platforms will be next season’s most coveted shoes, that I am sure. But what is truly significant in this collection is how Miuccia Prada elevated standard feminine wear like the pencil skirt, pantsuit, and even the housecoat to something more unprecedented, she made these style staples that are considered normal go beyond their functional call of duty and transform into fashion forward, some even avant-garde, pieces for your closet.

Here are my 10 favorite looks from the Miu Miu Spring 2015 Runway:

I can already imagine the hordes of fashionistas that will be clamoring for this amazing shoe. After all, who can resist that large bow detail? So fun and so chic.

A ruffled detail placed right where a pencil skirt darting usually is shows Miu Miu’s penchant for the unexpected and the truly clever.

The suede brown panel on this checkered jacquard updated housecoat is a 70s inspired detail that will surely resonate within industry trendwatchers.

I just adore how the paneled pencil skirt is so rich in texture and how it pairs perfectly with the brown and red top handle purse.

Plaid certainly isn’t just for fall anymore. This boxy top with a ruffle detail straight down the middle is prim-and-proper and ladylike yet there’s still an edge to it.

A cropped ruffle top with a textured pencil skirt is a youthful and refreshing take on the skirt and bare midriff trend.

This look is like a modern housewife gone wild. The matching printed sleeveless top and pant is made even more exciting with some ultra bright aquamarine .

The mishmash of influences in this look is simply fantastic. From the red-rimmed statement sunglasses, vintage fitted sweater, bold print pencil skirt down to the chunky black heels, this look has a mod/70s/sexy secretary vibe that spells so much chicness.

Coordinating your belt with your crop top will be the next big thing this spring.

Fur, satin, plaid, and loud colors shouldn’t work together, but in this memorable runway look they certainly do.

So much inspiration this past Fashion Week! I can’t wait for next year!
