Skirting the Issue

I always fall in love with basic pieces that have a little bit of a twist to it. We all love stripes, and we all have it in our closets. It’s easy to mix and match with other items, and it isn’t too plain to be considered boring. I particularly love the interesting cut and bat wing sleeves of this striped casual top. Not to mention, its eye-catching cabochon crystal brooch-like embellishment. It’s such a vintage inspired detail! How can I not fall in love? It’s like it was calling out my name!

This outfit is part one of my styling series. Watch out for my next post, I’ll show you a totally different way to style this striped top.

For now, let me tell you why midi skirts should be your next wardrobe investment.

When in doubt, skirt the issue. Skirts are an easy pick for me during those days when it’s too balmy out, but I still want to look ladylike and well put together. Breezy and flowing skirts are the answers to your summer sartorial problems. If you’re tired of wearing denims, then consider midi skirts your new best friend for the spring/summer season. What’s even better is that midi skirts are on-trend, and when styled appropriately can be worn to more formal functions as well due to its conservative length.

A bright red cross body bag is a match made for a black and white striped top. It is a nod to the nautical feel of stripes, and gives it a more graphic pop. This handbag also matches perfectly with the color of the heeled sandals.

Notice the tortoiseshell on the platform and heel of my sandals? Isn’t that such a great little detail? It adds an earthiness to this look and contrasts it with the girliness of the textured blush pink midi.

The key to this unexpectedly chic color story? The rule of three. The three major pieces in my look, my skirt, shoes, and handbag, all belong to the same rosy pink hued color family, which allows the black and white stripes to stand out even further.

The dark red lip is a great contrast to all the rosy tints, don’t you think? I enjoy making a statement with my lip color. It really does make a big difference. Another outfit element worth noting is the cinched waist, emphasizing your curves and your shape is always best.

Make Today The Day…

Sometimes you have to take your girly style and amp it up a notch. Why not add some urban chic elements to your feminine style? I sure did enjoy styling these sleek and modern black and white sneakers with some of my favorite pieces.

I just couldn’t resist posing and having fun against this colorful and graphic graffiti wall! This incredible piece of urban art goes perfectly well with the athletic meets ladylike style that I was going for that day. I love finding gems like this place within the city! It definitely pays to explore your own city.

This classic Chanel 2.55 purse goes well with pretty much anything! And this look is proof that it even goes well with athletic sneaks! Definitely a fashion investment that will stay in my closet for years to come.

I love how the sheen of this pleated skirt makes this A-line skirt silhouette feel so novel and modern. I chose a boxy houndstooth top to balance the flare of the bottom. Quick styling tip, when wearing a predominantly black and white outfit adding a print in those two classic colors will liven up your look instantly.

I cannot stress this enough, never ever forget to consider how your beauty look of the day will affect your overall mood and disposition. Glam makeup will certainly make you look polished and pulled together. Not to mention, it’ll add a spring in your step! A bold lip color can give you a confidence boost like no other.

Cream of the Crop

Who doesn’t love a  chic crop top? It is comfy, sexy and youthful, all at the same time. What is not to love?

And contrary to popular belief, this piece can absolutely look classy! Remove images of crop tops with fringes or tacky crop tops worn with uber short shorts from your mind, this season’s crop tops are more on the elegant side. Rather than paired with denim cutoffs, crop tops are cropping up in increasingly sophisticated and fashion forward sartorial pairings. Try crop tops with high waisted tuxedo pants or with full or tea-length skirts.

I opted to style my black crop top with a more modern romantic feel. Partially inspired by Audrey Hepburn, this ensemble stays true to my brand of chic while simultaneously adding edgy and trendy details that make it more current.

The volume of my vintage inspired brocade print full skirt is the perfect balancing element to the sleekness and sexiness of my crop top. The full skirt also adds a more feminine vibe to this look. Modern meets girly and romantic happens when this crop top and skirt come together.

The vintage-inspired sunnies, black tights, and of course, the oversized pearl necklace are the details that give this look a more Audrey Hepburn effect.

Don’t you just love how the ultra modern zippered booties play off of the femininity of the skirt and pearls? Such a great idea. Having contrasting items in your outfit is a brilliant way to show off your fashion knowledge and styling prowess.

I cannot stress how much details make your look more personal and more you. The embellishment on these sunglasses up the glam factor of my look even more. I’m in love with this pair!
