Paris is always an exciting place to be. Most especially during fashion week, of course. The City of Lights and Romance Capital of the World turns into a runway filled with the best street style looks from the European and international fashion elite. Everyone who’s anyone, and anyone who’s lucky enough to be invited to the shows pulls out all the stops and shows off all the sartorial tricks up their sleeve for Paris Fashion Week.

New York is urban. London is a little bit rebellious. Milan is sensual sophistication. Paris is all about making a unique statement clothed in a whole lotta glam. Here are the best looks and coolest trends I’ve spotted:

Leather and Lace

Leather and lace is one of those unusual fashion combinations that totally works. It’s tough gal meets modern romantic, girly meets punk. The marriage of these two materials almost always result in stunning looks. Paris fashionistas take it up a notch with unexpected silhouettes and daring hemlines.

Patent Animal Skin

Animal prints are pretty much wardrobe staples at this point. Take your love for animal skin to a more exotic and flamboyant level with the patent animal skin trend that positively ruled the Paris streets come fashion week. This trend isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re bold enough, you’re a shoo-in for the most stylish in the room. Just ask Anna Dello Russo.

Sleek and Sophisticated

Black is the ultimate in sleek and sophisticated. However, you can expect a little bit more from Parisian stylistas when it comes to styling this reliably chic color. From adding emerald green cropped biker jackets, adding a blazer for a menswear twist, and donning this eponymous color in its most alluring form–in leather, black is a go-to color to look chic. All these looks are proof that black is far from boring.

Sparkle and Shine

Embellishments like sequins and feathers need not be confined to evening wear. In fact, Paris fashion week street style has redefined evening wear and made it into everyday wear. Hey, if you have the confidence and panache to rock a fully embellished evening frock during the light of the day, then go for it. Parisian fashionistas are known to make their own rules after all. Not just all about florals and stripes, Paris Fashion Week showed us an array of eye-popping prints that have a definite “shock and awe” value. Je ne sais quoi means “I don’t know what.” That’s the literal meaning. When one says ‘je ne sais quoi,’ it is used to describe someone’s desirability that stems from something intangible, something you can’t quite out your finger on. Paris Street Style has “je ne sais quoi” to a T. There is just something magical, and borderline otherworldly about the fashion choices that you are inspired to make whenever you find yourself in Paris. I mean, just take a look these amazing looks below. Giovanna Battaglia’s bell-like sleeves, and inexplicable lime green on lime green ensemble that surprisingly works, fur plus striped marsala–these are looks that look right at home on the trailblazing streets of Paris.

Fashionistas and style aficionados always, always look beyond the runways, magazines, internet, and social media for inspiration. Movies, films, and documentaries provide us fashion lovers unique and in-depth insight into the industry and creative expression that we all love so much. Any serious fashionista will tell you that they oftentimes find inspiration in movies, and they often find themselves learning new things and getting educated on the finer points of design, personal style, and fashion history.

Consider this list your starter guide into fashion movies. Grab some popcorn and brace yourself for a bevy of amazing inspiration. Here are my top 10 picks for must-see fashion movies:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

You can’t really leave this classic film off this list. Audrey Hepburn basically invented the “little black dress” we all know and love in this movie. Hubert de Givenchy designed all the looks in this movie, and it is all stunning.

Bill Cunningham New York

Before there was The Sartorialist, Tommy Ton, and Street Peeper, there was Bill Cunningham. The New York Times photographer is a legend within the industry and can certainly be credited for singled handedly bringing street style into the main stage.

The September Issue

Vogue is considered by most to be the fashion Bible. This documentary takes the viewer through the whole process of putting together Vogue’s eponymous September issue. Even better is the glimpse we get into Anna Wintour’s personality. You’ll find yourself falling in love with Grace Coddington too.

Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorfs

Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan is certainly a big player in the fashion industry. This department store only carries the best of the best, and their store is one of the most important fashion institutions. You will love how this film shows how the put up their legendary shop windows, and you’ll enjoy hearing about the celebrity shopping anecdotes too.

Clueless

90s fashion is having a huge moment right now. Clueless definitely fits right into that. From the plaid kilt minis to the kooky statement hats, there is so much style inspo to be had. Not to mention, Cher’s AMAZING closet.

Valentino: The Last Emperor

If you’re in a style rut, you will fall in love with fashion all over again when you watch Valentino: The Last Emperor. Valentino is in love with beauty and glamour, and at the end of this film you will be swept up in the romance of fashion.

The Devil Wears Prada

Andrea Sach’s makeover is just way TOO GOOD. The montage of Andy’s new outfits is probably the best part of this movie.

Advanced Style

One can only hope to have even some of the chutzpah, confidence, and style sensibilities of these colorful and vibrant ladies whose unapologetic style has them feeling and looking forever young.

Coco Before Chanel

Chanel is one the most prestigious fashion houses at the moment. It is also one with tremendous history. Coco Chanel was a fashion revolutionary, who blazed a trail for women to wear whatever they want. Her designs were modern and it was firmly against the established corsets and restrictive skirts of the time.

Sex and the City

Now while Sex and the City 2 had some stellar style moments (their outfits for karaoke were unforgettable), Sex and the City still wins for the iconic looks that were like a throwback to the signature style of the show. This movie also started a lot of trends, like the gladiator heel and the oversized statement belt trend.

Milan street style is a different kind of animal. If London is punk, New York is urban, Milan is eclectic meets sophisticated. I love how fashion week really gives fashion lovers an opportunity to delve into street style around the world. There’s so much to learn about style from the streets, and every year it just gets more and more exciting.

Italian women have long been heralded as one of the most stylish and elegant in the world. It’s high time we take notes from Milanese street style and adopt some of that “la dolce vita” into our personal style and wardrobe. Here are my top picks for the best in street style and top trends in Milan for fashion week Spring 2016:

Italy is all about shoes, we all know that. The love for shoes runs long and deep in Italian culture and style, and Milan being the fashion capital of the country is the perfect stomping grounds for shoe lover from all over the world. Best of Fashion Week Street Style: London

London is the capital of the more subversive side of the fashion coin. Designers like Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, and Vivienne Westwood all call London their home, cementing the city’s status as a place where rebellious and unconventional fashion are born. More than that, London has been the hotbed for such historical and industry changing fashion trends such as mod and punk fashion. You can’t mention London without mentioning Savile Row, of course. Savile Row is the eponymous area in London, which is known for producing the best menswear and tailoring in the world.

For Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, fashionistas stormed London in their sartorial best. But what I loved the most is how their own style became transformed and/or influenced by the signature style of this city. I’ve noticed some key London trends in the street style spotted, and here they are:

Mad for Plaid

Plaid and Tartan is for the Scots, I know. But it’s a huge part of London Style too! Especially when worn from head-to-toe and accentuated with large Mod-inspired sunnies, plaid is so chic and feels so very now.

 

Dashing and Dapper

Savile Row is famous the world over for their impeccable menswear tailoring. This legendary London fashion landmark definitely influences women’s wear too. Various incarnations of suiting styles, ranging from the quirky to the classic, has shown up on my street style radar and I am in love with how menswear suiting can be interpreted into women’s trends and styles. Putting a feminine or modern twist to a classic suit is always a great way to get dressed.

  

Prep School

London is home to a lot of preppy style as well. Classic jumpers and school girl skirt silhouettes are an essential part of preppy fashion. Refresh those two pieces for 2015 with oversized jumper silhouettes and alternative skirt fabrications like leather. You can also co-opt some school girl style into your wardrobe with Peter Pan collars, white socks worn with heeled oxfords, and overalls, of course.

    

High Street meets High Fashion

You can’t mention London without thinking of its storied high street brands such as Topshop, River Island, Miss Selfridge, and New Look. These eponymous brands has inspired a legion of London fashionistas to embrace high street trends and marry it with their high fashion sensibilities. Think of trendy fur vests, playful clutches, and gold metallic belts paired with the latest designer pieces of the season like Celine sunnies, Jil Sander sunnies and Balmain jackets.

From preppy to punk, from mod to edgy menswear-inspired ensemble, one thing iis for sure London street style is characterized by a playful and youthful take on the latest trends. Best of Fashion Week Street Style: New York

It’s astounding how different one city can be from another. The four fashion capitals, New York, Paris, Milan, and London, all have distinctive styles. I’m going to explore that with my series of blogs about Fashion Week street style.

Street style blogs have a cult following for a reason. It captures individual style and it captures the feeling, mood and personality of that particular moment. Where you live affects your sartorial choices, and I want to explore that through these blogs. I’ve curated images, which stand out for its sense of style as well as that unique New York feeling. New York is urban and straight forward, just like these stylistas. Here are my picks:

Magazine editor Joanna Hillman isn’t afraid to wear two bohemian trends together. Billowy floral sleeves and fringe never looked this good together.

I love this chic yet subtle take on color blocking. It’s a different way to dress up in warm colors when it’s autumn.

Hanneli Mustaparta bucks the fashion rules dons a pair of floral overalls with gusto.

Look closely and you’ll see 3 different kinds of graphic stripe in this look. So edgy.

Model Lindsey Wixson nails Brooklyn cool in this ensemble. Love the brown belt and wide brim hat.

The architectural feel of the check print and especially the shoes reflects the New York skyline. But just like the city, there’s an unpredictable element. How amazing is that pink furry clutch?!

Make  a bold statement in Moschino.

No shame in the matchy-matchy game. Start a new trend when you match your bright top with equally bright-hued sunglasses.

There’s no reason why culottes can’t be done up in leather. That plus sheer sleeves equals edgy glamour.

Editor Christine Centenera makes a strong case for pinstripes in this fashion forward look. Mostly black and navy, but never boring.

Sweater dressing gets elevated with stark white masculine oxfords.

This outfit is Upper East Side Gossip Girl style with a dash of modern. The white sneakers and ribbed turtleneck definitely put a trendy spin on the matching tailored blazer and shorts look.

Nothing says downtown cool girl like an unexpected outfit pairing. A standard striped Breton shirt gets upgraded by a tiered ruffle skirt.

Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad blog looks adorable in this earthy 70s inspired look.

Stylist Liz Uy is an example of fashion excess done right. Printed platforms, oversized cuffed jeans, fringed clutch, and kimono tunic doesn’t sound like it should work, but it does.

Go big or go home. Fringe plus voluminous culottes is the definition of full throttle fashion.

Military green parkas are basically a staple in any city gal’s wardrobe. Here is a new and refreshing way to wear ’em.

Contrast the trendiness of your It bag with a quirky vintage print and a ladylike classic bun.

Selena Gomez has gone from Disney star to a bona fide platinum pop star. She’s had some pretty stellar movie appearances too (see: Spring Breakers and Monte Carlo), with more films on the way. Crossing over from TV to recording and movies is no easy feat, and it’s an indication of how talented and determined this Young Hollywood star is.

You know what else makes her stand out? Her style. Whether it’s on the red carpet or on the streets, Selena‘s style is always youthful, playful, and sophisticated all at the same time. Here’s my roundup of Selena Gomez‘s best fashion moments:

I am in love with this look! Consider this your new inspo for your next workout chic look. I love those sheer panels on those leggings, that’s fashion meets function at its best. Those pink sneaks are pretty cute too.

Accessories to consider pairing with your boho tops are: Panama hats, fringe cross body bags, gladiator sandals.

There are some parts of the world (like Singapore) that have summer-like weather all year round, which means you always gotta be swimsuit ready. Some parts of the globe, on the other hand, are just starting summer while other parts still have end-of-summer festivities to look forward to. No matter the season, there’s always a reason to keep your eyes peeled for the hottest and trendiest bikinis. You never know when you’ll be needing one for a spontaneous weekend beach getaway or for your best friend’s pool party. Key trends you should watch out for when bikini shopping are: color blocking, halter top silhouettes, macrame/crochet details, and sexy cut-out maillots.

Deep-V necklines and cleavage baring tight boydsuits a la Kim Kardashian  are all the rage this season. These sleek pieces are so sexy and fashion forward. Fashion Bipolarity

Do you enjoy fashion extremes just like I do? I am so guilty of dressing the complete opposite of what I did the day before. You should definitely let your mood of the day dictate what you’re wearing sometimes, it just makes fashion and dressing up even more exciting since it’s so unpredictable!

I wore this embellished striped top previously with a blush pink midi skirt, and now I take more of a youthful approach with a huge amount of street style rebel vibe.

This look really goes to show how versatile stripes can be, girly and feminine one day, and rock n’ roll the next. I kept the same beauty look, did you notice? The dark red lip matches this look perfectly as well.

How much am I loving the grunge rock feel of these printed slip-on sneakers? Again, this is further proof of how opposite I can be with my style. I do love my heels, but there are days when nothing can beat an edgy pair of comfy sneaks.

These jeans are so comfortable that I can actually surf in them! City surf, that is. Jeans are so great for traipsing about and having urban adventures.

But what makes this look so amazingly rugged and chic? The ripped denim, of course! I love the ripped denim trend because it just lends that undone glam to your casual look, and if you choose to dress it up with something sparkly for the evening, it looks just as chic. The boyfriend fit of the jean makes this pair extra trendy and of-the-moment.

I used the same fuchsia YSL nano cross-body bag in this look, and it works just as well. The structured shape of the handbag works to make this look feel a little more put together, and a little less rugged and slovenly. And it is an excellent pop of color too, since this outfit is mostly dark tones.

This ensemble really makes the embellishment on the tee stand out, a brilliant spin on the denim and tee casual dressing. So take that tip to heart, a little bling on your T-shirt goes a long, long way into glamming up your daytime look.
