Spring 2015 Makeup Trends

Spring is just around the corner, and if your closet needs a refresh so does your beauty routine. The Spring 2015 runway was rife with beauty inspiration and artistic visuals. From spins of classic beauty looks to avant-garde flourishes, this season’s beauty looks ran the gamut. There were flirty and fun girly looks, eccentric graphic designs, but the most prevalent look was the minimal barely there makeup look. Wanna know more? Wing It 

This season takes the winged/cat eye trend that has been going strong for years now, and this time around the industry has upgraded it and made it more dramatic and geometric. You can either go for a fully lined cat eye look in blue liner or a heavily drawn on top liner with a futuristic feel, either way a more pronounced cat eye will do wonders in giving your spring look a modern uplift. These cat eye looks are perfect for evening, and will look great with your favorite LBD.

Doll Face

This season’s doll-like beauty look is all about pink lips and a wide-eyed look punctuated by high impact lashes. Lips that range from pinkish nude to hot pink Barbie lips, and lashes that range from 60s Twiggy-esque to 80s maximum volume drama, the doll face look has a variety of incarnations that you can play around and have fun with. This look is best paired with spring’s traditional floral frocks and pastel looks.

Red Alert

Red lips are always a permanent staple in the beauty industry lexicon. It is like a sleek black pump that never goes out of style. For Spring 2015, the red lips come in a more stained look. This “just bitten” look is especially perfect for balmy summer afternoons. Best paired with a bold, perfectly sculpted brow. This is a fuss-free way to get your beauty look on trend.

Purple Rain

The smoky eye look isn’t exclusive to neutrals anymore. Shades of purple have been used to create a refreshing and colorful take on the smoky eye. This unexpected color creates a look of subtle sophistication. Keep the rest of your beauty look simple when taking this trend out for a spin, and let your eyes be the focus of attention.

Feelin’ Blue 

Blue eyeshadow gets a bad rep for being unwearable and borderline uncool. Spring 2015 has brought back the blue eyeshadow in a big way, and in the process it has proven that this eye look can work for a variety of eye colors and skin tones. Experiment with different shades of blue and see what works for you.

High Brow

Yes people, eyebrow coloring and bleaching is a thing. Kim K. and Cara Delevingne have both taken the plunge into a brow color change, and it is proving to be a favorite of fashion rebels to express their inner wild child. This trend may not be for everyone, but it is certainly a noteworthy trend that you can try with some temporary eyebrow tint.

Au Naturel

Spring 2015’s most dominant beauty look is the barely there minimal makeup look. The perfect no makeup look always start with great skin, of course. Invest in your skincare and stick to routine that works for you to ensure that you have the best canvas for this beauty trend. The key to the no makeup look are groomed brows and a healthy looking complexion, which you can either use a bit of bronze or blush to achieve. Finish off with some lip balm and a tiny amount of gloss and you’re all set.

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

The smoky eye look is another trend that has cemented itself as a beauty industry classic. This season designers showed heavily lined raccoon like dark smoky eyes. Channeling a “morning after party vibe” this edgy beauty look is best paired with a leather jacket or for some sartorial contrast, a polished and tailored ensemble.

British Vogue’s November Issue cover star, country music icon, street style star, and pop culture phenomenon Taylor Swift is a force to be reckoned with. At such a young age she broke out onto the scene in a big way, with infectious rhythms and insightful, deeply felt lyrics. Her famous relationships (and breakups too) have been immortalized into country/pop-rock songs that has the rest of the world singing along. She has recently been making the news and making major headlines with her feminine and vintage inspired street style looks. Each look she steps out in is pure perfection, and she has us swooning over her to die for style. She always looks polished and always look paparazzi ready, which goes to show that you can stay true to yourself and not always follow the trends.

A departure from her typically sweet street style, Tay Tay shows that she can turn up the glam and exude a bit of naughtiness with this sexy black jumpsuit. She still maintains her signature girly vibe by toting her top handle vintage frame bag. Opting out of accessorizing and just letting the black pieces be the focus of this look is such a classy style move.  

In the summer, we saw Taylor Swift in one matching printed two-piece set after another. She practically lived in those crop tops and full skirts. She stays loyal to her affinity for matching sets and makes it more fitting for the fall in this knit sweatshirt and pencil skirt duo.

Taylor Swift turns up the glamour in a sparkling and shimmering Gucci gown during this year’s Grammy Awards. With just some elegant ear danglers as her accessory, she completely owns the red carpet in this beautiful silver column gown. 

I wish that we could all look this good on the reg, just like Taylor Swift does. She manages to look modern while donning vintage pieces. She looks absolutely flawless in this covetable outfit composed of a yellow houndstooth cropped sweater, mint green skater skirt, coral heels, and a lovely taupe frame bag. 

Want to know how to make even a pair of denim cutoffs look elegant? Do it like Taylor and add some polished extras into the mix. You can never go wrong with nude pumps, black frame top handle bag, and a white sabrina neckline top. Improve this casual look even further with a red lip and loose, tousled hair waves. 

If there was ever an argument about investing in tailored shorts for the summer, this look will be one of the strongest cases for it. A pair of brightly colored tailored shorts up the ante and gives a ladylike vibe to Taylor’s fondness and preference for menswear inspired footwear like these low-heeled oxfords. 

Taylor Swift might not be a school girl, but she certainly nails back-to-school style in this outfit. A red and blue patterned sweater dress  with her two signature staples, heeled oxfords and structured leather totes all make for an A plus look.

This is further evidence that you need not hold yourself strictly to the matching purse and shoes style rule. Sometimes, breaking fashion rules can be fun since the unexpected always leads to more excitingly chic looks. Style Report: Under the Radar Street Style Stars

The streets are the new place to see and be seen in your sartorial best. The recent surge of popularity and fashion authority of street style blogs and street style photography has produced a new crop of style stars that are a category all their own.

Bloggers, fashion editors, fashion buyers, and other personalities that work behind the scenes in the fashion industry have now come to the forefront in the fashion media solely because of their stellar personal style. Names like Miroslava Duma, Leandra Medine, Yasmin Sewell, Giovanna Battaglia, Ann dello Russo, Harley Viera Newton, Susie Lau are some fashionistas that have been a fixture in street style blogs. They have risen to the top and went on to lucrative products and collaboration, and are now fashion icons in their own right. Now let me bring you another set of street style stars you should be watching out for.

Eva Chen

Her now infamous #EvaChenPose on Instagram (see photo below) has gained her hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. Lucky Magazine’s EIC Eva Chen does a daily style snap at the back of her cab/town car to show off her eclectic taste in accessories as she displays her shoe and bag of the day. A mix of high and low, her style is that ever elusive marriage of girly and playful fashion meets haute and happening trends.

Kristina Bazan

One of the breakout street style stars for this year’s fashion month, Kristina Bazan of the style blog Kayture is a Swiss-born and raised style maven who has been dominating more than street style blogs. Her amazing ensembles and great taste in fashion has been featured in sites like Teen Vogue and WhoWhatWear. I predict that this 19-year old stylista will be making waves in the industry soon.

Linda Tol

Amsterdam based blogger and trendsetter Linda Tol has been wearing one edgy look after another. Her ultra modern and chic blunt white bob aside, her style aesthetic is carefully cultivated and she thoughtfully puts together each look into one gorgeous photoready outfit. But picking apart her look, you’ll find that each piece can stand stylishly on its own. Her taste is something that you will do well to learn from.

Caroline Brasch Nielsen

Danish model Caroline Brasch Nielsen is a permanent face on Caroline’s Mode a model off duty street style blog. She certainly possesses the hallmarks of great model off duty style, she has that same effortless ease in assembling looks that convey casual sophistication and approachable daytime glamour.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

If you’re the offspring of, arguably, one of the most influential voices and most important stylesettes in the industry, how can you not turn out to be a top tier fashionista too? Simple answer, you can’t. Growing up surrounded by great style and with a glamorous mom like Carine Roitfeld, former editor of Parisian Vogue, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld has pretty much her name written in the fashion history books. She certainly nails the essence of Parisian Girl style, she seamlessly blends textures together for visually interesting looks.

Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor

Model and DJ Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor is part of an emerging young fashion mafia. With her incredible street style cred, she constantly mixes the best of high street brands like Topshop and Zara with more high-end and feminine pieces. Each of her looks have a definite rock n’ roll vibe, probably an influence of her rockstar dad John Taylor of Duran Duran, she loves wearing vintage band shirts with fun and girly pieces like full skirts and heart-shaped leather crossbody bags.

Pernille Teisbaek

Look de Pernille is a wildly successful street style blog from Pernille Teisbaek, who is a huge influencer in the Danish fashion industry. This former fashion editor and current freelance stylist and TV personality has been dropping jaws left and right with her refreshing take on feminine dressing, either going all out in a pastel pink cape dress or putting her on spin on menswear with sporty stripes and cropped bra tops.

Candela Novembre

Argentine born and Milan based model Candela Novembre has that enviable ability to inject bright colors to every single one of her looks without looking too over-the-top and still looking seasonally appropriate and fashion forward. She also has an extraordinary penchant for mixing patterns and textures together. So take some notes every time you see her in one of her signature standout ensembles.

Ella Catliff

La Petite Anglaise is Ella Catliff’s fashion blog where she expresses her sense of style, and that is feminine meets vintage. In an age where trends and faces blend together in a blur, Ella Catliff distinguishes herself by always sticking to her signature style. Style Icon: Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner stormed the runways with a purpose this year. Renaming herself, simply Kendall, she was determined to be taken as a serious, high fashion model this year. Often quoted saying that being a Kardashian has been the opposite of beneficial for her modeling career, Kendall’s stellar success this season is proof that she is slowly making her way up to Karlie Kloss modern supermodel status. The VS Angel rumors are a good indication of a budding and promising career in the modeling world.

Kendall had a lot of memorable turns at the runway this Spring 2015, and even more than that, she has shown that she has the fashion chops to pull of the ever elusive and highly coveted model off duty street style. I give you the rundown of her top 5 runway appearances and her top 5 off-duty looks.

The gingham-filled Diane Von Furstenberg collection got a lot of mentions and accolades from the fashion press. Kendall’s runway look is one of the best in the show, this DVF frock is classically timeless and feminine.

Kendall wowed on the Tommy Hilfiger show with a youthful and flirty bikini, with equally playful and adorable star tattoos.

Almost unrecognizable in a blunt bob wig, Kendall stomps down the Marc Jacobs runway in golden and glimmering sporty slides that continue to echo that shower sandals/chunky flatform trend.

Radiant and resplendent on the Ports 1961 show at Milan Fashion Week, this sheer gossamer ensemble looks gorgeous on Kendall. This look is perfect for summers on the Italian riviera.

Of course Kendall had to walk down the Balmain runway. She’s best buds with Oliver Rousteing after all. Thin bands hold together this tough looking dress, with a definite rock n’ roll vibe.

Kendall flaunts her legs for days in the perfectly nonchalant afterparty outfit, an oversized tee worn as a dress with over-the-knee slinky suede boots.
