Back to Back

It’s all about back cut-outs or low backs. Whether it’s a maxi dress with a thin-strap back  or a deep V back plunge, these frocks and tops with bare backs or cut-out details give an effortless yet alluring vibe. Put your hair in a top knot or to show off more of your sexy back. You can even try some trendy metallic temporary tattoos for a little extra glam. Forget those flip-flops and pair your back-baring pieces with heels or trendy white sneakers.

Bohemian Babe

You don’t have to be by the beach to look the part of a beach babe. Let your hair down in loose waves and spritz some salt spray on them. Let those lustrous locks graze your tanned shoulders in these off-shoulder flouncy tops. Remember that the 70s are back on trend and with it the bohemian fashion movement is also having a moment. These playful and breezy off shoulder tops also come in cropped tops if you want to show more skin. Accessories to consider pairing with your boho tops are: Panama hats, fringe cross body bags, gladiator sandals.

There are some parts of the world (like Singapore) that have summer-like weather all year round, which means you always gotta be swimsuit ready. Some parts of the globe, on the other hand, are just starting summer while other parts still have end-of-summer festivities to look forward to. No matter the season, there’s always a reason to keep your eyes peeled for the hottest and trendiest bikinis. You never know when you’ll be needing one for a spontaneous weekend beach getaway or for your best friend’s pool party. Key trends you should watch out for when bikini shopping are: color blocking, halter top silhouettes, macrame/crochet details, and sexy cut-out maillots.

Take the Plunge

Deep-V necklines and cleavage baring tight boydsuits a la Kim Kardashian  are all the rage this season. These sleek pieces are so sexy and fashion forward. Trust me, this will make your blue jeans extra sexy for that next night out. Accentuate your cleavage with a sweep of bronzer and accessorize with a long necklace or trendy body chains.

Leg Up

Super high to the slits or double slits are a great way to show off those gams. Instead of a micro mini dress or skirt, why not opt for these instead? These have more drama, trust me. Spring 2015 Hair and Nail Trends

When updating your beauty booty for the new season, make sure that you update your entire beauty look and not just your makeup kit. Fashion forward and edgy hair and nail trends abound, and these looks may just be what you need to complete your #OOTD. There is a plethora of beauty ideas and new looks this season, and each one is just as fun and playful as the next. Bring back those old school hair crimpers from the 90s. I love how fun this look is. It is more playful than full-on bouncy curls and definitely has that “too cool to care” vibe. Best to mix crimped strands with some sleekness for a hair do that’s straight off the runway. This ‘do will definitely make you stand out.

Exposed Bobby Pins

Gone are the days of hiding how you pinned your locks for the day, the runways are unapologetic with how we achieve a gorgeous ‘do now. Let those bobby pins be a part of your modern look and expose them to the world as you use it to pin your trendy half-up hair do. Whether you do your half-up hair look sleek or whether you choose to do it tousled and a bit more messy, these exposed bobby pins will definitely upgrade your look of the day.

Baby Hair

Inspired by FKA Twigs, baby hairs are back. No need to pin them back or use gel or serum to tame them, allow your baby hairs to flow onto your face naturally. These fine strands will certainly complete your model off duty look and it also goes with the natural makeup look that’s all the rage this spring and summer.

Grunge Braids

Braids are still going strong this season, but this time around braids are more on the rock n’ roll and edgy side. Milk maid braids or girly and ladylike braids are no longer, braids this season are a little bit grungy. More fashion forward and with more street style cred for sure, consider this your license to spend a little less time perfecting and taming your braids. Let your strands stick out organically and don’t use too much product to achieve this look.

Modern Knots

Top knots and buns are still trendy, but for Spring/Summer 2015 these knots are more modern and minimalist with just a touch of origami inspiration. Sleek and architectural, these knots and buns will take your updo to the next level of chic, and will refresh your evening look for sure. 

White Nails

White nail polish in glossy finishes are still ultra chic. You can try these optical white nails with either almond shaped or square shaped digits. Long or short, white nails are essential for the season. It adds a graphic feel to any ensemble.

Consistent with hair and makeup trends, natural nails are also in this season. This isn’t an excuse to skip your mani, ladies. Maintain and moisturize those nails and cuticles, and pick a nude or natural blush color on your spa appointment. It is vital for this nail trend to keep your digits healthy.

Keeping things simple seems to be a common nail trend for Spring/Summer 2015. A single stripe whether done in a metallic or contrasting bold color, can do so much and make a major beauty statement.

Metallic and shiny is out, matte and metallic is what it’s all about. This looks best on short nails, and you can even opt to do a small half moon detail on your nail bed in another metallic and hit two nails trends in one. You can trot this nail trend out whether night or day, but it will look amazing against bronzed skin.

The 70s are back in a big way this season. From the oft-reported fashion industry switch from skinnies to bell-bottoms, down to the ubiquity of wide brim hats, the styles and trends from the Woodstock era are staging a comeback, and from the looks of things these trends are here to stay. At least until the next season comes. Fringe is one of those trends that have swept the street style scene and blogs, and have got us all in a tizzy. It’s just such a dramatic material and it makes a statement that cannot be ignored. Dip your toe into this trend and flex your sartorial muscles as you take on this boho-hippie fringe trend and make it your own. Always remember that melding your personal style with prevailing current trends is the key to having standout and unique style. Here, I’ve rounded up the best street style inspiration that’ll surely unleash your creative styling spirit and get you on the fringe trend train.

Pairing your bad gal cutout boots with some ladylike vintage floral fringe cape for a look that is sure to turn heads. An all black look gets the right amount of flash with this fringe stunner.

Maximalist can work for you if you’ve got the confidence and fashion chutzpah. A bold pair of fringe calf boots with a printed fringe poncho works when you keep everything else natural, even your hair and makeup.

Make like a fashion editor and cop some of that next level style when you wear your leather fringe jacket as a top and cinch it with an oversized belt. A ruched army green skirt and modern black sandals keep the fringe jacket from looking like you fished it out of a bad 70s flashback.

Walk This Way

It’s amazing how inspiration can strike you. Even in the oddest of places, like this parking lot, you can find something visually appealing and inspiring. I just love how the lines, arrows, and graphic color blocking (grey, white, and yellow), led me to a super fun and impromptu photoshoot!

I love how cities and urban living can just influence your fashion and lifestyle! My ensemble is very city chic with a dash of bohemian flair.

I adore this blue ikat print collarless jacket and love how it adds print, color, trend, and texture to my predominantly neutral look. I also love how the lines of the ikat print look against the graphic lines of this location.

Did you notice that my pink lips match the pink scarf tied around the handles of my Hermes purse? It’s all in the details, darlings! Little things like this can make your outfit stand out even more.

My white button-down and white jeans is such a refreshing combo, especially when paired with cap-toe boots. This look is simply classic, and you can style it however you choose. The printed topper I chose mixes a bit of current fashion trends with the timeless pieces that I used as the base of my outfit.

Another styling trick that I always use is making use of contrasting proportions. The volume of the jacket sleeves alongside the varying sleeve length make for an interesting visual. 

White on white is a white hot trend that you should get on board with. It is a classic and clean look that you can even wear during evening events. Given the right styling of course.

Now that spring is coming, white will be a more prevalent color trend than ever. Combine it with fun and playful prints just like I did, and you’ll be styling down the city streets (or the beach!) in no time.

Spring 2015 Makeup Trends

Spring is just around the corner, and if your closet needs a refresh so does your beauty routine. The Spring 2015 runway was rife with beauty inspiration and artistic visuals. From spins of classic beauty looks to avant-garde flourishes, this season’s beauty looks ran the gamut. There were flirty and fun girly looks, eccentric graphic designs, but the most prevalent look was the minimal barely there makeup look. Wanna know more? Wing It 

This season takes the winged/cat eye trend that has been going strong for years now, and this time around the industry has upgraded it and made it more dramatic and geometric. You can either go for a fully lined cat eye look in blue liner or a heavily drawn on top liner with a futuristic feel, either way a more pronounced cat eye will do wonders in giving your spring look a modern uplift. These cat eye looks are perfect for evening, and will look great with your favorite LBD.

Doll Face

This season’s doll-like beauty look is all about pink lips and a wide-eyed look punctuated by high impact lashes. Lips that range from pinkish nude to hot pink Barbie lips, and lashes that range from 60s Twiggy-esque to 80s maximum volume drama, the doll face look has a variety of incarnations that you can play around and have fun with. This look is best paired with spring’s traditional floral frocks and pastel looks.

This “just bitten” look is especially perfect for balmy summer afternoons. Best paired with a bold, perfectly sculpted brow. This is a fuss-free way to get your beauty look on trend.

Spring 2015’s most dominant beauty look is the barely there minimal makeup look. The perfect no makeup look always start with great skin, of course. Finish off with some lip balm and a tiny amount of gloss and you’re all set.

Flora and Fauna

Sunshine and sea breeze on a gorgeous day, what more can you ask for? I love spending time outdoors. Soaking up some Vitamin D and taking a lovely and leisurely walk by the docks while breathing in the fresh air and looking at the gorgeous scenery; this is my idea of a picture perfect afternoon. 

Is there a better time to don a flowing chiffon floral print blouse? This gauzy and cool blouse has just the right drape and the fabric lets my skin breathe. The naturalistic floral pattern matches my environment and echoes the natural beauty surrounding me. Nature is truly inspiring and spending time outside makes me so happy.

Pairing my chiffon top with white skinny denim further enhances its springtime appeal. The white denims have the perfect relaxed fit and lends itself very well to the ease of my overall ensemble. Finishing off the look with strappy heels, gives a bit of sophistication. The chunky heel of this pair keeps me from teetering and are so very comfy to walk in. 

Instead of the usual red lip, I opted for a red-orange hue that matches the more earthy tones in my look. 

 

It can’t be a complete #OOTD without a statement bag? As you can probably tell my dear reader, I am very passionate about purses. I believe that bags can elevate a look and pull it together. My new acquisition from Valentino is no exception. The studded detail is so contemporary and trendy and so unexpected with the earthy color palette of the purse. The orange and olive green color play into the natural appeal of my floral chiffon blouse.

Street Style to Steal: Retro Colors

Spurred by the 60s revival on the Spring 2015 runways and the current pastel color trend takeover this fall, the street style scene is turning up in a plethora of bright colors in mod silhouettes. Retro styles and bold, brash color is in. This is not the season to be a wallflower, this is the time to show off your penchant for eye-catching color and your love for fashion.

Stomp around town in go-go boots and show off your gams in a mod style staple, the mini skirt. Don’t forget to match your look with long Twiggy-esque lashes and a chic blowout. See my rundown of the top street style looks to steal and get inspired by. Enjoy the parade of fun retro colors and playful prints!

It doesn’t get any more mod and more fun than this dress that is positively made of sunshine. The simple cut of the dress and the Peter Pan collar are both girly and flirty details that make this frock look straight out of the 60s. Give it an updated styled feel by adding a pair of captoe oxfords. Bare legs make this look summery, you can easily translate this into fall with the simple addition of hosiery and outerwear.

An elegant shift dress in dusty rose looks even more mod with these snakeskin print blue go-go boots. The simple cut of the dress and the contemporary metal button detail prevents this ensemble from looking too much like a costume. It is important to avoid the costume trap when doing a take on retro dressing. Remember, it still has to look chic for the present day.

A belted T-shirt dress gets some ladylike vintage-inspired treatment with a small mod collar and kitten heel bow pumps. The cat-eye sunnies and top handle satchel reinforce the mod inspiration, but the jewel toned blue makes it feel so current and trendy.

A bright-colored cropped jacket with a printed mini dress gets a tinge of downtown vibe with some on-trend accessories that complement and don’t take away from the overall mod feel of the look. Black pointed toe mules and a silver clutch accent the mod statement of the jacket and dress perfectly.

The Brigitte Bardot hair and makeup of this chic gal aside, this is a picture perfect feminine meets mod outfit. The delicate print is a softer spin on mod florals, but the gamine silhouette and buttoned up look of this dress stays true to the iconic dress shape of the decade.

Cropped tops and trousers were a big look in the 60s. The bright color of these orange cigarette pants are great when paired with the boxy cropped top with a fun and playful print. Tomboy chic is one of the strongest trends during the mod era, and the colors and prints in this look update that tomboy trend. Not to mention the street flair that the studded heels and mini cross body bag add.

Black opaque tights under a short skirt is a classic 60s look. The color blocked orange sweater adds the element of geometry that was so popular in the 60s, and very reminiscent of the YSL Mondrian print of that time. The heeled loafers with metallic detail is another nod to the tomboy look that Twiggy popularized back then.

Turn heads in a lime green coat that increases the wattage of your look almost instantly, and ups your visibility by a thousand percent. It will be impossible to miss you when donning this shocking color, and when sporting such a fashion forward look with confidence and aplomb. The Audrey Hepburn inspired oversized sunnies is the perfect topper to the super cute mod mini and turtleneck combo.

A coquettish ensemble of a turtleneck mini in graphic black and red is elevated by the geometric detail on the pumps as well as the crocodile skin structure top handle satchel. The textured bob further updates this look, showing that your beauty look should always be in harmony with your style.

A checkerboard print two-piece set in lime green is cheekily punctuated with octagon-shaped sunglasses goes to show that high fashion can be fun too. This look is mod on the first look so you will do well to choose a pair of simple and sophisticated white pumps so as not to overwhelm this high glam look.

The streets are the new place to see and be seen in your sartorial best. The recent surge of popularity and fashion authority of street style blogs and street style photography has produced a new crop of style stars that are a category all their own.

Bloggers, fashion editors, fashion buyers, and other personalities that work behind the scenes in the fashion industry have now come to the forefront in the fashion media solely because of their stellar personal style. Names like Miroslava Duma, Leandra Medine, Yasmin Sewell, Giovanna Battaglia, Ann dello Russo, Harley Viera Newton, Susie Lau are some fashionistas that have been a fixture in street style blogs. They have risen to the top and went on to lucrative products and collaboration, and are now fashion icons in their own right. Now let me bring you another set of street style stars you should be watching out for.

Eva Chen

Her now infamous #EvaChenPose on Instagram (see photo below) has gained her hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. Lucky Magazine’s EIC Eva Chen does a daily style snap at the back of her cab/town car to show off her eclectic taste in accessories as she displays her shoe and bag of the day. A mix of high and low, her style is that ever elusive marriage of girly and playful fashion meets haute and happening trends.

Kristina Bazan

One of the breakout street style stars for this year’s fashion month, Kristina Bazan of the style blog Kayture is a Swiss-born and raised style maven who has been dominating more than street style blogs. Her amazing ensembles and great taste in fashion has been featured in sites like Teen Vogue and WhoWhatWear. I predict that this 19-year old stylista will be making waves in the industry soon.

Linda Tol

Amsterdam based blogger and trendsetter Linda Tol has been wearing one edgy look after another. Her ultra modern and chic blunt white bob aside, her style aesthetic is carefully cultivated and she thoughtfully puts together each look into one gorgeous photoready outfit. But picking apart her look, you’ll find that each piece can stand stylishly on its own. Her taste is something that you will do well to learn from.

Caroline Brasch Nielsen

Danish model Caroline Brasch Nielsen is a permanent face on Caroline’s Mode a model off duty street style blog. She certainly possesses the hallmarks of great model off duty style, she has that same effortless ease in assembling looks that convey casual sophistication and approachable daytime glamour.

If you’re the offspring of, arguably, one of the most influential voices and most important stylesettes in the industry, how can you not turn out to be a top tier fashionista too? Simple answer, you can’t. She certainly nails the essence of Parisian Girl style, she seamlessly blends textures together for visually interesting looks.

Model and DJ Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor is part of an emerging young fashion mafia. With her incredible street style cred, she constantly mixes the best of high street brands like Topshop and Zara with more high-end and feminine pieces. Each of her looks have a definite rock n’ roll vibe, probably an influence of her rockstar dad John Taylor of Duran Duran, she loves wearing vintage band shirts with fun and girly pieces like full skirts and heart-shaped leather crossbody bags.

Pernille Teisbaek

Look de Pernille is a wildly successful street style blog from Pernille Teisbaek, who is a huge influencer in the Danish fashion industry. The VS Angel rumors are a good indication of a budding and promising career in the modeling world.

Kendall had a lot of memorable turns at the runway this Spring 2015, and even more than that, she has shown that she has the fashion chops to pull of the ever elusive and highly coveted model off duty street style. I give you the rundown of her top 5 runway appearances and her top 5 off-duty looks.

The gingham-filled Diane Von Furstenberg collection got a lot of mentions and accolades from the fashion press. Kendall’s runway look is one of the best in the show, this DVF frock is classically timeless and feminine.

Kendall wowed on the Tommy Hilfiger show with a youthful and flirty bikini, with equally playful and adorable star tattoos.
